Provinsk is the second-largest city in Vekaiyu and remains one of the more forward-thinking cities in The East Pacific realm. The city's youth are trendy and full of opinions while the old are more cautious, remembering the series of regime changes the city and the country had to endure. Provinskis, as they like to be called, are perhaps the most progressive individuals in all of Vekaiyu and have accepted the slow transition into a bilingual society (Unonian and English) with open arms. These people like to educate themselves about other national cultures, and do not waste an opportunity to educate others about theirs.
Provinsk is a city that has enjoyed importance for quite some time. In the middle ages it was an important trade center connecting Vekaiyun merchants with north and west sections of the continent, unobstructed by the Ta'lavero Mountains. Provinsk birthed many great Vekaiyun inventors who spurred the plastics and rubber industries of the nineteenth century. Today it represents one of the industrial hubs of Vekaiyu, and is recognized for its continued embrace of said industries. Universities strong in tech jobs continue to churn out bright and innovative individuals to further the city's success into the 21st century.
Location
Provinsk sits in the southeastern section of the Vekaiyun nation, cradled to the south by the ancient Uliveru Mountains, forested groves of The Levenasi to the extreme west, and Listonian farmland leeching from the east. The weather patterns provided by moisture gathered in from the west and the Gulf of Itur to the north, coupled with the desertification of Packilvania occurring hundreds of thousands of years prior, have provided the city and surrounding lands with favorable growing seasons. The Eruli River splits the city in twain, and its gentle current has served the denizens of Provinsk well for thousands of years.
Winters are generally regarded as mild with occasional snow and ice. Springtime is generally short, leading to a warm summer with a favorable Listonia-like growing season. An atypical autumn, believed to be due to shifting wind patterns, lasts roughly four months or more follows from August to November.
Culture
Provinskis are generally regarded as among the most forward-thinking individuals in Vekaiyu - Vekaiyuns who are always willing to try new ideas and better understand the world around them. The general thought is the historical implications of its past importance as a trading post and history of invasion and independence led its populace to adopt its own unique flair of Vekaiyun culture.
At times, they lead the nation in setting trends. For instance, Provinskis have grown fond of dyeing strands or whole sections of their hair with beet juice and a mixture of preservatives. Wearing striped sleeves with fingerless gloves have also caught on in recent memory, as have suspecting one's ears to various piercings and hole punches. Other times, their trends stay more local. For instance, the wearing of swim masks on the forehead lasted just a few seasons.
Despite being landlocked, Provinskis love their aquatics. Going through education without joining some kind of school underwater hockey league, swim team, or even taking up scuba diving is seen as odd or rare. Like all Vekaiyun students enrolled in public schooling, swimming is a core curriculum requirement. Most major league teams in Provinsk are seen as "tough losers", in that the city has not won a national championship in underwater hockey, underwater rugby, baseball, or soccer since 1983 when the Provinsk Red Fins of Vekaiyun Major League Underwater Hockey brought home the coveted Imlestrobi Trophy. Based on their championship run, it is common to drive through eastern boroughs of Provinsk and spot a pair of red flippers nailed near the front door as a sort of good luck charm for the local team. That of course differentiates them from the Yamursis, named after the process of removing the rib cage from a still-living enemy and, once cleaned, fashioning the cage into a harp - a process now firmly in Provinsk yore from the armies of years past. Needless to say, the west-end of the city does not hang rib cages, of course, but instead opts for the usual flags, historical memorabilia, hats, the likes.
High gravity alcohol beer laden with spices are brewed near the large factories, with each bar claiming they have the best batch. Likewise, restaurants will "go to war" over which one can claim the right to having the best bowl of kikale.
Climate
In spite of its position far inland, Provinsk's climate is classified as Oceanic (Köppen climate classification Cfb), with warm, relatively sunny summers and cold, overcast winters. Precipitation is elevated from mid-spring to the end of summer, but remains largely constant throughout the year, totaling 631.4 mm (24.9 in) annually. On average, snow falls 30 days per year.
The highest temperature ever recorded was 38.1 °C (100.6 °F) in August 1973, during the 1973 Yasterian Heat Wave. The lowest temperature ever recorded was −23.4 °C (−10.1 °F) in December 1968.
Provinsk has been fought over by two main weather systems - the moist and warm summer air from the Gulf of Itur in the north and the cooler, drier air from the Uliveru Mountains which rest on the southeastern border between Vekaiyu and Packilvania. Provinsk summer is generally determined by whichever system wins out. Generally, this is the former. Due to the heating cycles over the gulf, precipitation usually occurs in the late afternoon or early evening.

History
Historical records and accounts from playwrights to annual inventory records suggest the city of Provinsk, formally known as Lesa, was established around 3,200 B.C. by vulpine farmers and traders. Several times in its intricate and exploitative history Provinsk has obtained independence, and at other times was governed by foreign entities, but as the last bout of separation from the Vekaiyun state ended in 1577, Provinsk remains handedly in the Vekaiyun sphere of influence and is soundly a Vekaiyun city, of course. Of course.
