The Kingdom of Tretrid is a nation located in southern Novaris. It is located north of Lapinumbia.

Tretrid controlled a large portion of western Novaris up until the War of the Tretridian Succession, upon which its colonies were partitioned by Asendavia and Norgsveldet. More recently, Tretrid was a member of the South-East Pacific Coalition, an observer of the North Shield Treaty Organization, and is a founding member of the League of Novaris.

Its government is a constitutional monarchy. The King nominally gets the final say in laws, but in practice the legislature, the Witenagemot, unilaterally passes laws.

Etymology

"Tretrid" was coined by Staynish explorers, as a rough approximation of the name of Tretrid in its native language, ᚦᚱᛖᚾᛁᚪ. The transliteration of this word, Þrenia, wouldn't be created until a better translation between Tretridian and Staynish was created.

The peninsula that Tretrid lies on can either be referred to as the Tretridian peninsula or the Threnian peninsula (where "th" is substituted for thorn). Tretrid was named after the peninsula it resided on, but the origins of the name of the peninsula is currently unknown.

The official translation of Tretrid's name into Staynish is "Kingdom of Tretrid". However, the word for kingdom, ᚱᛁᚳᛖ (transliterated as Rīce) can also translate to "Empire", so calling Tretrid the Empire of Tretrid or the Tretridian Empire is technically still a valid translation.

Four Days' War

Main article: Four Days War

Tretrid joined the South-East Pacific Coalition in December of 2016, just as tensions between the SEPC and the Fire Pact Alliance ramped up due to allegations of human rights violations on the part of the FPA. As a result of this, war broke out on December 11 after SEPC ships started to blockade Celannica, an FPA member.

Asendavia, a member of the Fire Pact, sent a fleet to Novaris to attack Tretrid. What resulted were a series of naval engagements off the coast of Tretrid with no decisive outcome.

Tretrid attempted to disable the Fire Pact's orbital weapons platform and space station, the Eternal Wrath, with an ASAT weapon. In response, the Eternal Wrath fired upon and destroyed the SEPC's space station, Myriad Station. The debris from these events are agreed to have been what caused the ablation cascade that ensued shortly after, making much of space near Urth useless. As a result of this, powers like the Veridian Union intervened, threatening diplomatic sanctions against SEPC and FPA nations, unless peace talks ensued. Due to this, a ceasefire was signed and came into effect on December 14.

The Treaty of Aura was signed on January 31, 2017. All nations involved had to pay reparations, but especially Tretrid, since it was the nation that fired the ASAT weapon in the first place.

On Feburary 2, the Witenagemot voted on a motion of confidence due to the government's conduct in the war. As a result, Prime Minister Æthelred was forced to resign, and was so replaced by Eoforwine.

Auroran-Pacific War

Main article: Auroran-Pacific War

In late May of 2017, King Lambertus VII of Great Morstaybishlia held an emergency meeting, in which Tretrid reaffirmed its alliance with the empire. The Oan Isles, Axdel, Kuthernburg, and Stratarin also allied with Great Morstaybishlia. However, during this meeting, Mikhail Starikov took power in Stratarin, leaving the previous Strataric Premier, Viktor Drugov, stuck in Sani Bursil. Starikov renounced Stratarin's allegiance with what came to be known as the "Allies". This event is considered to be the start of the Auroran-Pacific War.

After this meeting, the SEPC Security Council, of which Tretrid was a part, held a meeting concerning these new developments. However, any attempts to make SEPC align with the Allies were stonewalled by Stratarin, as Starikov's government made it clear that they had no interest in aligning with the Allies. Stratarin would later ally with Ethalria, splitting the once mighty Coalition into two.

After Ethalrian agents attempted to assassinate Lambertus, instead killing the Morstaybishlian Crown Prince Thadeus, Tretrid declared war on Ethalria, citing both Thadeus's death and Tretrid's alliance with Great Morstaybishlia.

In the war, Tretrid sent soldiers to Aurora to aid in the war effort, but most of Tretrid's effort was focused on the Pacific Theater, where Tretrid and the Oan Isles opposed Stratarin's attempt to invade Aurora.

Politics

Government

The Monarch is the head of state, and gives royal assent to all laws passed by the legislature. However, in practice, the king does not hold very much sway over Tretridian politics.

The Prime Minister is the head of government, and is elected by the legislature. The legislature makes use of a parliamentary system.

Law

Tretrid's body of law traces its history to the common law passed by the Witenagemot in medieval times. For most of Tretrid's history, law came in two forms: common law, passed both locally in cities and across the kingdom, by the Witenagemot; and royal law, passed by decree from the monarch.

In the 17th and 18th Century, a series of reforms that moved power from the King to the legislature, eventually effectively abolishing royal law.

Foreign Relations

Tretrid is a member of the League of Novaris and an observer state of the North Shield Treaty Organization.

Tretrid was a member of the South-East Pacific Coalition, which precipitated Tretridian involvement in the Four Days War.

On May 2020, Tretrid declined an invitation to join the NSTO's Membership Action Plan.
