Electoral system
Date
Volkian law establishes the date of the first round of presidential elections to be held on the third Sunday in June, with a second round scheduled for two weeks later, if required.
Eligibility requirements
The Constitution of Volkia (Chapter IV) defines the conditions that a presidential candidate must satisfy: must be a natural born citizen, be at least 35 years of age, have resided in Volkia for the last 12 years, and the ability to speak the state language. The Constitution also establishes a term limit: one individual cannot serve more than 2 terms total.
Procedure
Candidates can be nominated by a political party that won at least one seat in the National Assembly in the previous elections, or can be nominated by collecting 75,000 signatures from enfranchised citizens from at least half of the nation's provinces with at least 1,500 signatures in each of them. The election results are only considered valid if turnout is above or equal to 35%. The candidate who receives an absolute majority of votes is elected president; if no candidate receives a majority of the votes, a second round between the top 2 candidates is held two weeks after the first round. The candidate with the largest number of votes in the second round then becomes president.
