Presidential elections were held in Volkia on June 19, 2016. The 33rd presidential elections, voters chose a new president as the incumbent, Zakhar Kreskov, was term limited. Because no candidate received a majority of votes in the first round, a run-off between the top two candidates, Yuliya Surkova and Kateryna Lysenka, was held on July 3. Yuliya Surkova won the election in the second round with 55.59% of the vote, the first woman in Volkian history to win a presidential election. The election was also the first in Volkian history to feature two women in the run-off election. Surkova was inaugurated on August, 6, 2016.
