Volkian Federal Police

The Volkian Federal Police (VFP) (Volkian: Волкскийская федеральная полиция (ВФП), tr. Volkskiyskaya federal'naya politsiya) is the national and principal law enforcement agency of the Volkian Federal Government, being subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As of February 2019 the commissioner of the Volkian Federal Police is Fyodor Kondakov, the former Chief of the Volkgoroda Metropolitan Police Department.

The VFP is primarily responsible for preventing, investigating, and disrupting international, serious, complex, and organized crime including terrorism, violent extremism, cybercrime, drug smuggling, and sapient being trafficking. It is also responsible for border protection, railroad and aviation security, protection of federal witnesses, and protection of certain federal institutions. It also has the capacity to provide various specialty units to local and provincial law enforcement within Volkia. While the agency has nationwide jurisdiction, the VFP is not responsible for community policing, as that falls under the responsibility of local and provincial law enforcement agencies.
History
Prior to 1973, the Volkian Federal Police's duties were split across several agencies. Following the passage of the Volkian Federal Police Act of 1972, the agency was originally intended to be used as a protective force, transportation police, border security, drug interdiction, and combating public corruption. Public corruption in particular was a hot button issue with Volkians following the impeachment of former president Matvei Lukyanov. The agency was involved in the arrest of the former president and maintained custody of him until his conviction, at which point he was turned over to federal prison authorities.
Today the VFP is a multi-faceted agency with numerous responsibilities and works closely with local law enforcement when necessary as well as with international law enforcement partners.
Missions
The VFP has the following missions:
- Combating international, serious, complex, and organized crime including terrorism, drug smuggling, money laundering, sapient being trafficking, as well as cybercrime.
- Providing the federal government's mobile response force for internal security events.
- Providing counter-terrorism forces (Rapid Intervention Unit).
- Border security and passport control.
- Providing transportation security at major Volkian airports and on Volkian railways.
- Providing air marshals.
- Protection of federal buildings such as the National Assembly Building, Federal Supreme Court Building, and the Presidential Palace.
- Protection of federal officials such as the President of Volkia and high ranking members of the Volkian National Assembly.
- Protection of federal witnesses.
- Supporting international police missions.
