Stratarin (Strataric: ცაგვალაქიანა; Staynicised: Tsazukʼikiana), officially the Militarised Communist Republic of Stratarin is a communist state in Eastern Aurora, that straddles the confluence of the Sea of Tranquility and the Pacific Ocean. Stratarin shares a maritime border with Peper Isles (KVC) and Vistari West Pacific (KVC).
Stratarin covers an area of 106,646 square kilometres (41,176 sq mi), with a population of 65.4 million. Coyden is the country's capital and largest city, but together with the neighbouring cities of Uchanogha and Tʼarosikʼlipidaba, it forms a larger metropolitan area. The climate varies relative to quadrant, from the south west cold semi-arid climate, south east typical hot-summer climate, north and west hot semi-arid climate and the far east tropical savanna climate.
Present day Stratarin traces its cultural and historic identity to Avenid Salovia that existed from the 2nd and 3rd century. Because of its easterly geographical location in Aurora, the region became a hub for sea based trade and became wealthy economically and culturally. The region was strongly affected by the Age of the Plague which killed upward of two fifths of the population at the time, and is responsible for internal conflict that broke the region into three kingdoms. A single nation did not consolidate again until the 15th century under the rule of Queen Arin I. Stratarin became an early Auroran economic, political and military power. Strataric explorers pioneered maritime exploration in the Pacific, and had a well established trade network.
Stratarin was involved in the Auroran Imperial War, and went on to help form the ACA. Following the war, Stratarin expanded its industrial complex exponentially, but found itself at the mercy of many systemic failures including pay freezes during inflation, harsh stance on Labour unions and corruption scandals, which lead to Ruslan Voronin's 2001 Communist Revolution. Under Voronin, Stratarin left the ACA, implemented the Five Year Plans, sent political and civilian opposition to the gulag, and began a period of isolationism. Eventually, Viktor Drugov led another revolution which saw Voronin's assassination. Isolationism ended under Drugov, but other factors continued such as the police state, restrictions on journalism, gulags and the Five Year Plans. Drugov was eventually couped by Mikhail Starikov at the start of the Auroran-Pacific War.
Today, Stratarin has a mostly human populace, but also populations of elves and settler vulpines, who live mostly in T'urajaralua (literally 'fox society'). Its GDP per capita is $13,520 and its total GDP is $873 billion. Relative to its size, Stratarin is considered dense, with 605 people per square kilometer. People here are not considered free compared to the Auroran Standard for Species Rights. Stratarin was denied entry from the UNAC and has hostile relations with Great Morstaybishlia, who did not expedite Drugov and members of his cabinet at the request of the government. Stratarin primarily exports iron and steel products, rubber and cereals.
