The 2022 Staynish Grand Prix (officially known as the Series 1 Burgendyk Staynish Grand Prix 2022) was a Series One race held on 27 March 2022 at the Staynes International Circuit, a dedicated motor racing circuit in Bluebells, located in central Staynes. It was the season opener of the 2022 Series One World Championship. Matthieu Soyer won the race after starting from second on the grid, his first win since the Peragian Grand Prix the previous year. His rookie teammate Kasran is'Vaara and former world champion Haaland Rusnák completed the podium.

Qualifying

Qualifying started at 15:00 local time on 26 March, and lasted for one hour. Rain arrived between the first and second rounds, and intensified by the end; all drivers chose to run on intermediate tyres in Q2 and full wet tyres in Q3. The final qualifying session was interrupted with a red flag when Czesława Pajor spun into the barriers at turn 7; he was cleared to race following a medical checkup. Morstaybishlian driver Marlan Kalming clinched pole position by 9 milliseconds in the dying moments of the session.

Race

The race started at 14:00 local time on 27 March and lasted for 52 laps. Kalming had a good start and quickly built a gap to Soyer in his first stint, including setting the fastest lap of the race. Pajor tripped his car's anti-stall mechanism and fell to fourteenth position.

A short but substantial cold front caused a record-breaking total of 79 pit stops as drivers swapped from soft slick tyres designed for dry conditions to intermediate tyres for light rain and later to full wets for heavy rain, before moving back through the range to finish the race on the slicks.

On lap 34, Kalming collided with Eyjarian driver Mikal Christoffersen as he was lapping him. Under these conditions, the driver being lapped is shown the blue flag and is required to move out of the way and slow down so they don't get in the way of the faster cars. Telemetry data showed that although Christoffersen initially lifted off the throttle, he changed his mind and took the racing line through Abbey corner, catching Kalming by surprise. Christoffersen's front left wheel was sheared from the suspension and his car came to a stop in the gravel traps, bringing out a virtual safety car. Although Kalming was able to complete the race, the damage done to his bodywork slowed him significantly and he his lead diminished until he was overtaken by the two Novia drivers and his teammate.

This race marked Novia Racing's first one-two since the 2021 Aszar Grand Prix, and is'Vaara became the seventeenth driver to get a podium on his debut Series 1 race.

Controversy surrounding the lap 34 incident increased when allegations were made that Christoffersen had covertly bet several thousand Kiribs against Kalming winning the Grand Prix.
