Yufraan Abd'ildarra (Asahri: غفران ابدإلضرة, Born March 20 1995) is a Dawrani prophet, the current religious head of Dawra, and the current Head of State of Aldaar. According to doctrine, they retraced the steps of the first Dawrani prophet Suleiman Abd'ildarra after their romantic partner Aida Nader was killed in an incident involving the security for the Republic of Mukarras during its control by Golden Oil. They became the first person in almost 200 years to have communed directly with Ildarra, and used their wisdom and oratory skills to incite a revolution which would succeed in removing Golden Oil from the Mukarras region in late 2022. During their time as Mutadiit, they have also become a global human rights advocate for many groups, including oppressed species, religious groups, and Urth's LGBTIAQ+ community.

Born in Mukarras in 1995, Yufraan's mother was killed by the Aldaari Volunteer Guards when they were 6 and they were raised by their father and another guardian. They did well in school and after graduating secondary school they began training to be a psychiatrist. After graduating, they began work at Mukarras in Mukarras General Hospital. They began dating Aida Nader, a local musician, in 2018. However, they had to hide their relationship due to Golden Oil's laws against same-sex relationships, and were eventually found out in 2021; Yufraan was brutally assaulted and Aida was killed by Mukarras's Golden Oil-run security force. After a several-month recovery, Yufraan made their way to the city of Hasa, which was nominally under government/Golden Oil control but which was mostly controlled by rebels. They spent several months with the rebels but grew frustrated over their lack of unity or direction, and in July of 2022 stole some supplies and set out on the Journey of Suleiman - a three-day trek from the center of Hasa to Jabal al-Bawdikaal, the holy mountain where the prophet Suleiman received a vision from the Dawrani god Ildarra, and was a journey that had not been taken in 218 years since the last Mutadiit. Upon reaching the peak of al-Bawdikaal, they received divine insight from Ildarra, and upon returning to Hasa were able to unite the revolutionaries behind them. Making their way to Mukarras, Yufraan's oratory skills were able to sway many to work against Golden Oil, and managed to completely stop the city - and indeed, most of the country. Altogether, this revolution, its causes, events, and effects, would all be known colloquially as the Aldaari Spring. On November 22nd, 2022, Yufraan successfully caused Golden Oil enough losses for them to agree to stop government interference and make Yufraan the new Mutadiit of Aldaar - and the first in 178 years - at which point they took the name Abd'ildarra, meaning "Servant of Ildarra" in Asahri.

As a prophet of the Dawra religion, Yufraan is considered by most practitioners to have a direct connection to Ildarra and the Spirit Plane. They are also believed to have been granted several boons, including great wisdom and knowledge, powerful oratory skills, and an immunity to the already minimal negative effects of peyote. Unlike some Mutadiits, Yufraan has shown themselves to be fairly resistant to the idea of conversion, instead preferring to maintain a secular approach to governance despite being a theocrat. During their reign, they brought back the Three Houses based off of the Aldaari Castes which had been established in the First Divine Republic and co-opted during WEGEC rule, as well as repealing many laws made to suppress the culture of and dissent from the Aldaari people, including laws banning Dawrani religious rituals and banning large gatherings. Yufraan has also shown to be extremely receptive to the democratic aspects of governance, having taken advice from their three main advisors and encouraging the formation of modern political parties in the Three Houses.

Early Life (1995-2013)

Childhood

Yufraan Abd'ildarra was assigned female at birth and given the name Nadia Faruuk. They were born to Rashaad Faruuk, a carpenter in Mukarras and Sa'adah Isaawi Faruuk, a local schoolteacher on March 20, 1995. Their birth, along with one or two others, was considered extremely auspicious as it happened on the first day of Alnahda, the Aldaari New Year representing growth and rebirth, on the first day of a leap year in the Ashma Solar Calendar. When they were six, their mother Sa'adah was brutally murdered by security hired by Golden Oil after she had participated in a protest against the corporatocracy. Afterwards, Omar Naciri - a friend and coworker to Sa'adah - would help raise them. They came out as Agender in the 7th grade, picking the historical unisex name Yufraan, the same first name as Yufraan Nuur'ildarra, the second Mutadiit of the First Aldaari Republic. While their father Rashaad and guardian Omar both readily accepted them, Golden Oil's policies of cultural suppression included suppression of gender identities differing from assigned sex at birth, as an integral part of Aldaar's culture is about accepting such changes. As such, Yufraan was unable to legally get their name changed or receive any medical support.

In 9th grade, Yufraan was diagnosed with anxiety and began receiving treatment to help them with panic attacks. They have said that the good treatment they received and how much it helped them was what made them want to become a psychiatrist.

Education

In primary school, Yufraan did well in history and language classes, and in secondary school would focus their education on psychology and psychiatry, as well as delving into topics such as political science and social dialectics. In addition, they took an environmental science class under their godfather, Omar, and were on their school's debate team coming second in the country. This was also where they have said they began to notice the increased monitoring by the AVG, who were known to survey the events to ensure "public security." During their final two years, they were the pitcher for their school softball team. They would end up graduating secondary school with a 3.75 unweighted GPA and getting into the University of Suleiman to pursue a degree in psychiatry.

Young Adulthood and Career (2013-2021)

Higher Education

Yufraan attended the University of Suleiman with a focus on psychology and mental health, and a minor focus on international relations. They also went through the college's concurrent pre-med program which allowed dedicated students to get many of the aspects of pre-med while officially pursuing a different path. They would complete several studies with the University, the most notable being the Yetan Prison Experiment, which gained international notoriety for its results; Yufraan served as one of the psychological examiners during check-ins with the 'guards' and 'prisoners.' Yufraan would also do research and formulate a thesis on where the experiment failed which would become widely circulated as a lesson in ethics for aspiring researchers. Eventually, they would graduate with their degree from the Mukarras campus of the University of Suleiman.

Career

After college, Yufraan began practicing as a school psychologist for the University of Mukarras while saving up money. In 2019, they applied for a loan to start their own practice but were denied, with no reason being given. Since then, documents have surfaced showing that Yufraan was still being monitored by WEGEC who influenced the denial of their loan.

Relationship with Aida Nader

In 2018, Yufraan met a busker and musician in downtown Mukarras named Aida Nader. The two quickly hit it off, and began dating privately about a month after they met. They routinely appeared at social events together, and Aida helped introduce Yufraan to contacts in Tawaabah, the rebel organization that their mother had occasionally worked with. In early 2021, Yufraan was planning to propose to Aida when they were caught together in a park in downtown Mukarras by a member of the AVG. The Guardsman attempted to arrest them for engaging in public homosexual activity, and when Aida resisted, the Guardsman drew his weapon and assaulted both Aida and Yufraan; Yufraan ended up with a concussion and seven stitches, while Aida would receive a head wound which would later prove to be fatal. Many theories surround Aida's death, with some believing it was intentionally orchestrated to dissuade Yufraan from joining Tawaabah. However, the fact that the Mirhaime-educated WEGEC correspondents largely disliked the stringent anti-homosexuality rules set in place by the economic arm of Golden Oil caused many to believe it was one rogue and over-zealous AVG Guardsman, and the revelation of documents detailing Yufraan as 'observe only' would later lend credence to these theories.

The Aldaari Revolution (2021-2022)

Revolutionaries Before Yufraan

Ever since the 1928 Mukarras Bombing, Tawaabah had been on a steady decline only buoyed by occasional bursts of public approval. As of 2021, when Yufraan Faruuk went to join the group, Tawaabah was on the back end. The last wave of support had been in 2011, and Tawaabah was running low on weapons, medical supplies, energy, and rations. Furthermore, while WEGEC was growing increasingly digitized, the leadership of Tawaabah were either unwilling or unable to do the same. Lastly, the leaders of the group were extremely disjointed, indecisive, and occasionally even corrupt, all further draining Tawaabah's resources. When Yufraan arrived, they attempted to persuade the leaders to listen to them, set differences aside, and work together to achieve their end goal; however, the leaders were unable to take any action, crippled by a self-imposed veto power and members with radically different ideas.

Path of Suleiman

As the Tawaabah council failed to act on Yufraan's pleas, they felt they had to do something to ensure people would listen. For three days starting on October 13th, they had recurring dreams about the stories their "uncle" Omar had taught them about the exploits of Suleiman Abd'ildarra and the mythical Mohamed, about their various journeys and the lessons they had learned. The dreams also included events from Yufraan's own life; the death of their mother and girlfriend, the countless days that they said they "had wanted to do something more, but [were] unsure how." And they recounted hearing an almost ethereal voice permeating these dreams, offering vague encouragement. On the 16th, Yufraan held a traditional dream-interpretation ceremony involving peyote, which resulted in a single vision: themself, standing at the top of a mountain, with Suleiman standing behind them. Yufraan recognized the mountain as Jabal al-Bawdikaal, the place where Suleiman had received the first vision from Ildarra. Realizing what they must do, they gathered up three days worth of supplies and left for the mountain. From there, accounts vary, but overall the only thing that has been confirmed by Yufraan is that they did indeed encounter three trials on three separate days, and that they were not the same as Suleiman's trials. From there, Yufraan recounts reaching the top of al-Bawdikaal Mountain and speaking directly, for the very first time, with Ildarra herself. However, once again Yufraan has chosen not to disclose the details of this discussion publicly.

End of the Revolution

From Jabal al-Bawdikaal, Yufraan returned to the Tawaabah headquarters. Onlookers have reported hearing the faint sound of ethereal music playing, however, some have claimed that it was simply a radio in a nearby room tuned to a classical station which someone had forgotten to turn off. Yufraan went into the main meeting room, interrupting a leadership session, and began speaking impromptu to the assembled crowd that had followed them it what would become known as the "30-Second Speech," so named not for its length but for the fact that it reportedly only took people 30 seconds or less to decide to follow Yufraan. From there, Yufraan quickly took leadership of Tawaabah by a popular vote instigated by an unknown member of the crowd. They immediately had videos of the speech spread through Aldaari social media and digital networks, and immediately began organizing mass strikes and marches in the major town of Hasa, which served as a WEGEC trade hub but also relied on significant amounts of collaboration with local organizers. They were able to completely cripple the economy of the city and significantly reduce Golden Oil's hold, which forced the unprepared and unsupported Golden Oil to 'retreat' from the city and quickly sell off their local assets, which were repurchased at extremely low prices by local Aldaari people. From there, Yufraan utilized similar tactics across the entire country of Mukarras, forcing WEGEC to abandon most local assets, although major assets such as oil drilling and refinement plants remained solidly under the control of Golden Oil mostly due to increased precautions and their more international nature. Finally, Tawaabah (under the leadership of Yufraan) set their sights on Golden Oil's last stranglehold - the city of Mukarras itself. After almost a month, a mixture of the same localized tactics with economic sabotage by shipping and manufacturing workers, the large increase of violence and harassment against AVG Guardsmen and Golden Oil executives, and the complete and mysterious shutdown of all of Golden Oil's computer systems would spell WEGEC's defeat for the time being, and on November 22nd of 2022, Yufraan would sign an agreement establishing them as the new President of Mukarras, while still allowing Golden Oil to continue operations in the Republic of Mukarras, a move criticized by many but cited by Yufraan as "a necessary measure to attain peace for the Aldaari people."

Mutadiit (2022-present)

Initial Reforms

Yufraan's first act as president of the Republic of Mukarras was to disband both the presidency and the Republic of Mukarras itself, instead choosing to reestablish the Divine Republic of Aldaar, with Yufraan themself as the mutadiit. (Given that Mutadiits must pass the trials of Suleiman to attain the position, there were no other options.) Some have criticized the acts as autocratic, fundamentalist, or having the intent to create a cult of personality; however, Yufraan's supporters have noted that the Mutadiit has far less power than the President of Mukarras had under Golden Oil, and Yufraan has expressed a desire to even further reduce that power at some point. Also, while Aldaar is technically a theocracy, it's completely open to any and all religions and practices barring hate or discrimination, including theoretically allowing a non-Dawrani to become Mutadiit. Finally, some have acknowledged that the fractured state of the Anabat desert was always intended to be temporary while a new Mutadiit could be found, meaning the reformation of a greater Aldaari state has always been a goal. While there is still opposition to the very nature of the government, the approval ratings for Yufraan and the new Aldaari state sit at a solid 79%.

In addition to recreating the country from scratch, Yufraan also took careful detail to remove every piece of legislation that Golden Oil had used to suppress Aldaari culture and human rights, as well as removing many 'secret' laws which had explicitly targeted the working-class populations of the country, and generally went through a legislative clean-up to make way for a new administration with less bureaucratic aims.

In a manner similar to the mutadiits of the First Divine Republic, Yufraan chose a new surname to honor their new position; Yufraan became the first to use a repeat of an already chosen name, choosing "Abd'ildarra" which translates to "Servant of Ildarra," and was the same name chosen by Suleiman Abd'ildarra.

Reestablishment of the Three Houses

Yufraan's final and most important reform done as solitary leader of Aldaar was to reestablish the system of governance used in the heyday of the First Divine Republic known as the Three Houses. This also required a massive social reform, as the proper functioning of the Houses requires the traditional Aldaari system of Kaastas, a complex social web based loosely off of profession. Yufraan started off with a massive educational program to ensure everybody knew about the traditional ways of the Aldaari people, as well as initiating a census (as no formal census had ever been conducted by Golden Oil). After making sure most people were educated on the Kaastas, knew what it would entail, and supported the massive shift - although gathering this support was not as difficult as a problem as it would have been had the populace not still been cresting a wave of revolutionary fervor - Yufraan finally signed the Three Houses Act into law, which was given the title "Executive Decree #0001." (The numbering started at #0000, however, Hasa was in desperate need of a new sewage system.) Elections were quickly held and in late December, Omar Naciri, Azniv Haviiz, and Anahid Terzian would be elected as advisors by their respective houses, officially ending Yufraan's unilateral control over the nation.

Personal Life

Appearance

Yufraan is 170 cm or 5'7" tall. They're Human, with darker bronze skin and shoulder-length black hair. They also have intense violet eyes, a side effect of peyote usage. While they occasionally wear binders (pending a mastectomy), due to the hot climate of Aldaar they consider it generally unsafe to do so and an unnecessary health risk. Typically, they wear combat boots, tan hiking pants, a t-shirt, and a forest camo military jacket. On formal occasions, they usually wear a full suit. They have also been known to wear traditional Aldaari desert wear when the situation calls for it.

Beliefs and Personality

Yufraan, being a theocrat of a majority Dawrani nation, is naturally a devout Dawrani and upholds many of the values espoused by the religion, including inclusivity, acceptance, and self-realization. Unlike previous Mutadiits, Yufraan has made no real attempt to expand the presence of Dawra within Aldaar or on an international stage, as well as being very open to reductions of their own power. Yufraan has also been a vocal activist for equality across all of Urth, and finally, they uphold many of the more traditional ways of the historic desert nomads of Aldaar, including a belief in redemption and the abolition of traditional border systems.

Many people who were friends with Yufraan both before and after their desert voyage noticed that Yufraan almost seemed like a completely different person. Furqan Hussayn, a friend of Yufraan from a young age, described them as being "extremely excitable, especially once you got them out of their shell" and said "they were equally as likely to engage you in a rapturing philosophical debate as to invite you to a party next weekend." However, post-Trials of Suleiman, "they're almost silent and extremely hesitant, almost as if they're contemplating every potential consequence of what they say - even if it's just what to eat for lunch." Hussayn concluded by saying, "I suppose that's just what happens when you literally have the weight of an entire nation, culture, and religion on your shoulders. Sort of forces you to grow up, I guess more than college did for us."
