Ufrata River
The Ufrata River is the longest river on Urth. It originates in the Ta'lavero Mountains in Vekaiyu and goes through Drakkengard and the Packilvanian provinces of Jumhurikesh, Iganar, Ashura, Mekedesh, and it empties in the Bay of Kemer, the second largest of the cities of Packilvania. Its tributaries include the Jumhur, Meked, Abaxahad and Ebron Rivers. The river's length is disputes but estimates suggest that the river is between 6,000 and 6,500 kilometres in length.
The Ufrata River Basin has an area of 3 million square kilometres, which is about half of the territory of Packilvania. It is home to 800 million people. The River is however the second longest navigable river in the world after the Ider River which spans North Ethalria and Great Morstaybishlia, because most of the River's length up to Iganar consists of rapids and large rock formation. Geologists believe that the soft bed of the Ashura Desert helped the river to cut deeply enough into the ground, to become deep for ships to navigate.
The River is supplied by glaciers that collect moisture from the Gulf of Itur. Because the Ta'lavero Mountains lie on the Ta'lavero Faultline which releases nutrients from volcanic activity in that area which the river carries down. As its banks flood when the glaciers melt in the Vekaiyun summer, the river bursts its banks and deposits enormous quantities of nutrients into the soul. This has enabled intensive agriculture all year round despite the fact that the river traverse arid and hot climates.
Control of the rivers headwaters has been an existential issue for Packilvania. In the foreign relations of Packilvania, control of the water has been a major political issue for the government. Some of Packilvania's largest cities such as Akas Akil, Adrien and Zukaril sit on its banks and derived much of their prosperity from being able to economically and efficiently transport their goods on barges down the river. These cities have also developed into massive inland ports that connect manufacturing and agricultural towns deep in the interior of Packilvania. Control of the River has been attributed as a significant reason for the continued unity of the vast territory that the country occupies. The Iktanite dynasty was the first to recognise and take advantage of this when they first formed Packilvania under Iktan the Devout.
