TEPwiki:Pages for discussion

Pages for discussion (PfD) serves as a centralized location for discussing what to do with potentially problematic pages whose potential move, redirect, merge, archival, or deletion may not be uncontroversial. This roughly follows the procedure of Wikipedia's XFD process, except that it serves to discuss pages in all categories.

This exists for the deletion of articles that should not be speedy deleted. In most cases, speedy deletion occurs in one of two cases:

  • The author requests deletion.
  • A page clearly violates a community policy (usually regarding plagiarism), leading to staff deleting it and "locking it down."

The process to delete a page, using the article on Tretrid as an example, is as follows:

  1. {{pfd}} is added to the top of Tretrid.
  2. A page at TEPwiki:Pages for discussion/Tretrid (which you can get to by clicking the discussion page redlink on the deletion template from the previous step) is created with the contents {{subst:pfd2|pg=Tretrid|text=[reason] --~~~~}}, where [reason] is, quite self explanatorily, the reason that it is up for discussion. For example, {{subst:pfd2|pg=Tretrid|text=Tretrid is really lame and I don't want to deal with it on TEPwiki anymore. --~~~~}}.
  3. A listing is created on this page, in this case, {{subst:pfd3|Tretrid}}, under the current date at the top.
  4. The discussion then happens. Please write a comment on the discussion subpage to create a record of your opinion. Responses here should be bulleted, so they should start with a *. Please state, in one word, your preferred solution in bold, before using the rest of your message to explain your rationale. To reply to someone else's comment, create a new line after the comment you wish to reply to, add ** at the start of the line to indent, and then write your response. Make sure to append all your comments with ~~~~ to mark the comment as yours and to mark the time you made the comment. If you wish to retract a statement, please use <s></s> or {{strikethrough}} to cross out your comment like this.
  5. Once a consensus is reached, the action is completed by someone who can do so (usually an administrator), and the page at TEPwiki:Pages for discussion/Tretrid is appended to have {{subst:pfd top}} '''RESULT'''. ~~~~ at the top and {{subst:pfd bottom}} at the bottom.

Alma mater

Alma mater (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View PfD)

It's a soft redirect to Wikipedia that doesn't really serve much of a purpose, and What Links Here shows that there are no article-space links that link there. This is the type of page that I probably would have simply deleted, but it's probably better procedurally to PFD this now that the process exists. --Tretrid (talk) 23:27, 24 August 2023 (CDT)

Suggested by Norgs. Non-canon, and... interesting design choices for the eagle. --Tretrid (talk) 22:13, 8 August 2023 (CDT)

  • Should be forwarded to community moderation, if found to be breaking TEP rules then delete. Asmo (talk) 05:02, 9 August 2023 (CDT)
  • Come on, this is a Nazi symbol which replaces a swastika with the Star of David and a menorah. It’s clearly antisemitic. I don’t think we even need to run it by community moderation. It breaks TEP rules, but it also breaks RP and Wiki rules, doesn’t it? Wiki admins have the authority to delete a page anyway, right? Besides, what possible defense could there be? It’s entirely irrelevant to Urth, as it is used by a noncanon country run by an absent user and uses symbols not canon to Urth in any capacity as far as I’m aware. There’s not even a counterargument to be made. --Lerasi (talk) 11:05, 9 August 2023 (CDT)

Nassad

Nassad (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View PfD)

Suggested by Norgs. Article made non-canon by the removal of Nacata from the map. --Tretrid (talk) 22:10, 8 August 2023 (CDT)

  • Pages for nations made non-canon due to inactivity should be archived and their original pages redirected to the Archive: namespace. Asmo (talk) 05:04, 9 August 2023 (CDT)

Kurikia

Kurikia (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View PfD)

Page on a nation that was removed from the map a month or two ago. Nomination suggested by Norgs. --Tretrid (talk) 22:05, 8 August 2023 (CDT)

  • Delete as nominator - this article is fairly barebones anyway. There wouldn't be too much to keep even if we do. --Tretrid (talk) 22:07, 8 August 2023 (CDT)
  • Pages for nations made non-canon due to inactivity should be archived and their original pages redirected to the Archive: namespace. Asmo (talk) 05:04, 9 August 2023 (CDT)
  • Kurikia is still in TEP and still RPs on the RMB, so he may come back for this. --Lerasi (talk) 11:07, 9 August 2023 (CDT)
    • If the page gets deleted, it can always be undeleted by an administrator, reconstituting the page and its history in its entirety. So Kurikia going back for it shouldn't be much of a problem. I think the main concern of this discussion is what we should do with it in the meantime. --Tretrid (talk) 12:41, 9 August 2023 (CDT)

Latianburg

Latianburg (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View PfD)

Another one of Rico's nation pages. Potentially important historically given certain old 2017 RPs, but should also be considered for deletion. --Tretrid (talk) 22:02, 8 August 2023 (CDT)

Nacata

Nacata (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View PfD)

Another one of Rico's nations. Again, we should decide whether it's worth preserving or whether we should delete it. --Tretrid (talk) 21:48, 8 August 2023 (CDT)

  • Pages for nations made non-canon due to inactivity should be archived and their original pages redirected to the Archive: namespace. As a blanket rule, there is never any downside or cost to archiving, so it's always worth it to preserve. Deletion is reserved for pages that break TEP rules. Asmo (talk) 05:06, 9 August 2023 (CDT)

Kuthernburg

Kuthernburg (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View PfD)

Formerly canon article from a previously active RPer who has since left. We should decide what to do with it. --Tretrid (talk) 21:44, 8 August 2023 (CDT)
