Wed Shams is a sovereign state in central Arcturia, located alongside the river Shams' bank and delta. The country is ruled by the monarchs of the two ethnic groups in power: Bardians, inhabiting mainly the delta and coastal areas, and Qaridians, from the inner territory. The current Bardian queen is Yedder XIX, in power since 1896, while Mutamid IV holds the Qaridian throne since 2010. The diarchs are elected for a lifetime reign by the Royal Council, made from the most distinguished members of both ethnicities. The country identifies as "Elvish", since elves of the Banto-Shamsian group form around 90% of the native population.
