Tissandra is a country in the middle of Yasteria Major continent. The area extended from the Hikaru's Gulf, to the West into the Yasterian Range. To the north, it borders Hama, and to the east lies the huge Packilvania territories. Though small, it once held the entirety of Yasteria wastelands and interiors. The core area of Tissandra consisted of two major cities; Annuriel and Eranorth, with population of around 92 million people.

The history of Tissandra began with the rise of the Hellenistic Civilization around 700 bc. Soon, the divided tribes united under the Eranorth Tribe and began the Pax Hellenica around the year 500 bc. The Hellenic Empire occupied much of Yasteria Major for 5 century, before the Great Revolt, led by Vinitius Clint in 1 bc overthrew the despotic hierarchy, and founded the Clintinian Republic. The Republic downfall in 527 led to the Hundred States era that lasted until 1865, when the First Civil War ended in a stalemate and divided the realm into the East West Divides that persisted well into the 20th century. The two state then clashed on the devastating Second Civil War that broke out in 1914. The unified modern nation today is the result of the Angelas Treaty signed in 1918 t end the war.

Modern Tissandra is commonly described as decadent and corrupt, although life expectancy and quality of living are high. This attributes are seemingly derived from Native Yasterian who felt the nation occupies their territory unlawfully. This description is also held by the Tissandran Liberal Rebels which rebelled in 2019, and engulfed the nation into the Third Civil War thats still continue to this day.

Etymology

The name "Tissandra" first derived from the ancient Eranorth Tribe. No one actually clearly knows about the real meaning of the name for the Eranorthians. But for the Hellenistic cultures that succeed it the name came from the Legend of Hellen, where supposedly, Tissa the God of Earth was Helen, Goddess of The Skies' first true love. And so, universally accepted by the Hellenist, that the entirety of Tissandran people are descendants of Tissa and Hellen.

The first official use of the name came after the First Civil War where the two halves of the country claimed the name as their own. Today, the name Tissandra is codified in the section 2 paragraph 1 of the 1918 Constitution and stands as the official name for the Constitutional Monarchy.

History

Historical Intellects and scientist agreed that the History of Tissandra mainly consisted of six stages; Tribal Era, Hellenistic Civilization, Clintinian Republic, The Hundred States Period, The East-West Divides, and the contemporary history.

Pre-Historical Era

Around 1000 bc, Middle Yasteria was occupied by both Yasterian Natives and Coasts Tribes. The origin of these Coast Tribes are unknown, although there are lot of its remnants around the caves in Packilvania's coasts.

The tribes was peacefully living together. Some evident showed that Native Yasterian received Iron pots and potteries from the Coast Tribes. Some remnants of Ibex bones was found around a former Coast Tribe villages near Annuriel, although Ibexs are only found Around inner Yasterian, suggesting that trading was flourishing at that time.

Around 800 bc, a Coast Tribe called the Ærath moved near Lake Tiberion. The exact date were unknown, but according to Aelita Tablet King Æthélfled was the one who led his tribe to conquer most of inner Yasterian, and subjugated most of Yasterian Natives.

The founding date of Eranorth seems correlates with Æthélfled's conquest, of around 800 bc. Æthélfled died on Yasterian Range when he led his tribal men across during a hurricane. Legend often stated that the hurricane was unnatural, and was started by Æthélfled's brother, Æron. The conquest was continued under Æron, until he was deposed by Æthélfled's heir, Eleana.

It was under Eleana, when the first Hellenic Temple was founded in Creçoré.

Hellenic Era

Eleana and her husband, Huron

Eleana Æçara became the first Shallah of the Hellenic Civilization on 24th of August 624 bc, and gone to rule almost for 72 years. During her reign, Hellenist began to preached across Yasteria, while roads are built to connect the major villages and tribes of Yasteria Major.

Eleana's direct five descendants was acknowledged as the Phillosopher Shallas, whom ruled over the realm for almost 400 years. Under their leadership, Hellenist occupied much of Yasteria. Their times were colloquially known as the First Golden Ages. Wealth did accumulate on this era, and the borders of the realm became opened, allowing ideas and trades to flourish inside the realm. Some historians argues that the all of the prosperities of these times as mainly attributed to the strong but wise hands of the Philosopher Shallas, and the sophisticated bureaucratic state of the Hellenic people. Others suggested that the long ages of the Philosopher Shallas was the main reason, as it contains resentment and prevents political upheaval inside the realm to happens. Either way, the Hellenic Civilization made its greatest success and impact in this era.

Around 446 bc, Æthura led the Hellenist once more across the Yasteria Range, and managed to surpass the deadly passes. He would gone to conquer most of the tribes west of the ranges. He and his son, Conquitara moves eastward and won another victory against the interior tribesmen. Then, in 314 bc, Bastierra build the Grand Acqueducts, series of Acqueducts and irrigation across core lands of the Hellenist.

The Golden Days

In Bastierra's time, the Hellenist had transformed from a tribal despotism, into a bureaucratic empire. The nation now had an established political bodies. Life became more complicated, as social norms and national laws were flourishing. The realm expands and stabilized its borders, ensuring a long time of peace and prosperity.

Although elected counselors and advisors already existed during Eleana's rules, the embodiment of the Senate and Congress of the Shallah are ratified inside Æthura's Book of The Century. The Senate was a freely elected body of 300 people. Though everyone principally can be a Senator, only the rich are able to fund campaigns (Prætoras) across the nation. The Congress on the other hand, was elected by the Senate. Both Congress and Senate serve for a 6 years term and can be reelected multiple times. The realm also owned national institutions, with its own branches regionally. The two institutions that were the main procurers of the government are the Magisterone and Milatireire.

The Dæstan

Carniol, a giant forum in Creçoré where Senators and Congressman confide.

After the death of Bastierra on 292 bc, Eleana's line ended. The Succescion Wars that followed his death rampage the country for three years, until Carmac Dæstan won the siege of Creçoré. He was crowned Shallah in Eranorth, as the Emerald Palace in Creçoré has been destroyed during the brutal siege.

The reign of the Dæstans were filled with hardship, as Common Taxes was implemented to quickly rebuilt the burgeoning realm. But conquest continues, and during these times, Annuriel was founded. With the sovereign gone out on expeditions, there are no oversight for the collection of the Common Taxes. Soon, corruption ensues.

During the expedition eastward in 75 bc, Galantir Dæstan died. His son, Ærica was still 7 year old. Although the law explicitly said that a Shallah can be of any age, the Senate overulled it, and set up an Interregnum for Ærica. The times was often described in historical texts as a the Times of Troubles. Rich Senators often accept bribes or easement to disrupt the bureaucratic processes of the realm.

Taxes were levied twice as many as during the time of Galantir. This caused poverty soar, and the bureaucratic offices to be burdened. As such, the realm expansion halted; though its just reached its peak size.

The Prophecy of Angelas

Ærica's fresco, inside the Temple for Caron

Arround 64 bc, a new faith began to be established surrounding Creçore. Some historian argues about the truth behind the exhibition and expansion of this new faith, but its generally agreed that it was brought by Abraham son of Lucca. Abraham began his preaching around that year, and soon enough there were huge number of masses hearing him. Most people argues that Abraham's doctrine of sharing and equalities were very popular among the growing masses of poor across the country. And it is also agreed that Abraham's popularity derived the corrupt senators to act against him.

It was told that Abraham moved from Creçore to Eranorth on the year 62 bc. He met with Ærica, and began to teach the young King his teaching. The most notorious senator at that time, Duræni 'The Bloated' reportedly began to deliver some lies and accusations against Abraham, finalizing in the Senate's order to catch him. The Senate sent the city bailiffs to arrest him in Eranorth's market, but unbeknownst to them, Abraham was with Ærica at that time. The bailiffs, possibly didn't know that the you disciple of Abraham was the king himself, knocked out the young man with a club, and arrested Abraham. Its possible that this act was the mortal blow to the king, as he died just a week later.

The Senate ordered Abraham to be hanged, but during the execution process, he made a great speech called The Prophecy of Angelas (possibly referring to the Temple of Angelas near his execution ground). The executioner hanged him just right after his speech finished. The crowd suddenly lifted in uproar, and Eranorth was engulfed in rebellion for the entire year of 61 bc. The rebellion soon retreated outside the city, and began The Kinstrive. In the end of the year, the senators fled the city to Anuriel and called for mobilization.

The Kinstrive

The Kinstrive was a series of peasant and religious dissent that followed the execution of Abraham son of Lucca on 61 bc, all the way to 1 ac. The rebellion that had started in Eranorth quickly spread across the realm. These dissent were not as large as wars, and its mostly consisted of skirmishes and ambushes between disorganised peasant armies, and the Senators private retinues, until the advent of the Great Revolt. During The Kinstrive, the Senators achieved their ultimate power, as the realm is leaderless. A kind of an oligarchy formed as they consolidated more powers to defeat the dissent.

Historians agreed that the advent of The Kinstrive did a lot to change the Hellenistic beliefs of the realm into the monotheistic Childrens of Abraham. The former disciples of Abraham spreads quickly into the realm's periphery to spread this faith. Even though it has a lasting effects, the chronology of the strives itself was not properly documented, and there are generally less historical evidence from this period, possibly due to the strives itself.

The Kinstrive ended when The Great Revolt broke out across the nation, led by a former General, Vinitius Clint in 5 bc.

The Great Revolt

The unstable times of the strives, and the amassing of powers on the hands of the senators led into growing dissatisfaction among the people. There were growing inequality between the elites and the commoner, as trades and commerce bean to halt. Around this time, the eponymous semi-mythical general, Vinitius Clint led his Bands of Traitors into the first act of open rebellion against the senators. Clint led his bands into a series of successful raids against senatorial possession during the strives, until the people of Creçoré requested him to protect their city from tax collectors. The refusal of Creçoré to give their annual taxes was followed by an entire army marching toward the city around 5 bc. Clint and his men rallied the population of the city, and managed to defend it for five days before evacuating the entire city into the countryside.

The Siege of Creçore marks the beginning of the Great Revolt. Clint then started an extensive guerilla wars and skirmishes. The former militants of the strives joined his growing army, and on around 4 bc, Clint already in possession of 20,000 men. The senate declared Clint as outlaw, and that anyone following him will be regarded as traitors, but there were some senators that were giving support and monetary aids for Clint's army, the so called Golden Sphere senators. One of them, Jacques Marie le-Brun, openly opposed the senate after Clint's victory at the Battle of Anuriel. His campaigns across the nation inspired many people, and Clint's humble background began to culminate into the people's support for a Republic.

Vinitius Clint's campaigns culminated into the Battle of Anuriel, and the subsequent Siege of Anuriel. During the twenty days of the siege, the senators continues to debate on what action should be taken. On the twenty first day of the siege, the Carniol of Anuriel was on fire and immediately destroyed by the flames. The senate withhold anymore meetings, and on the thirtieth day of the siege, they surrenders.

Clintinian Republic Era

After the fall of the Hellenic Realm, Vinitius Clint and the former senators who were part of the Golden Sphere formed the Clintinian Republic. The Republic was modeled after the Hellenic Empire, but with some reforms, codified into the historic Anuriel Testament. The Golden Sphere quickly formed the new Congress of The Republic, and drawn up constituencies across the realm, while Vinitius Clint was appointed as its first Consul. One of the Congress' first legislation was to extend Clint's terms to unspecified amount of time, making Clint consul for live. But Clint didn't live pretty long after the Republic was founded. He died on 12 ac, and the Congress reconstituted terms limit for Consulate after that. After Clint's death, the Republic began the annual celebration of the Siege of Creçore, on the 27th of March. This celebration persisted to this day, as the Democracy Day.

The Republic era showed little to no expansion of borders whatsoever. The Republic seemingly prefers for an isolationist view in diplomatic terms; The Republic released all vassal states of the former Hellenic Empire, leaving it with only half of the Empire's territory. The main endeavor of The Republic was trade, as there were many legislation surrounding trades and wealth management during the duration of The Republic. During the early part of The Republic (before 250 ac), many public works and infrastructures were initiated, resulting in the irrigation system for the once barren Yasterian Range and the western plains. Coastal cities grows in prominence too, such as the construction of the Great Port of Anuriel. The next phase of The Republic (250 ac - 526 ac) saw the realm began to sent trade expeditions across Urth. These trade expeditions open The Republic's market to other nations, mainly with the coastal cities that is now Packilvania, and the lands that now constituted Peregrinia. Around 300 ac, the Great Road between Eranorth and Anuriel was built, around the same time with the Giant Aqueducts. This huge endeavor was done with labor forces so large, that the realm gone into deficit for the first time. The deficit initiated the founding of the first bank of The Republic, The Merchant's Guild Bank. The Bank began to exerts certain influence over The Republic, but mostly beneficial in nature, even though it clearly show the lack of transparency and accountability of The Republic's bureaucrats.

The Republic enters a period of stagnation around 400 ac, resulting in a bloated bureaucracy, and more red tapes. The main contributor of this stagnation was the unreformed Constitution of The Republic, which in turn made the nation helpless to made any innovation or efficiency on its bureaucrats. The bodies of The Republic increased in size, making decisions harder to formulate. This all happens all the while the Congress and the Consulate continues to debate over jurisdiction and responsibilities. These factors ultimately culminates into the 492 Election, on which the nation are splitted into right and left politics. The heated political situation of the year 492 and 493 was further abated by Consul Hannah Marigold and the left's constant attacks to the Congress in general, and to the right in particular. The debates increase the national militancy, and upheavals began to soar in number. Around the year 500, new Monarchist ideas began to emerge, preferring a strong hereditary ruler over a republic of red tapes. The idea gain tractions predominantly in the east side of the nations, around the city of Eranorth. The ideas was fiercely debated by the left, and Consul Adrian Malachus began to prosecute anyone with such idea.

The continuous political upheaval and constant prosecution raids led to the republic bankrupted in 504 ac. The bankruptcy resulted in The Merchant's Guild Bank intervention on the Congress. The Bank received three permanent seats and even some veto powers over financial issues. This sudden takeover upsetted the people and outraged the right, which began to fell out with the Congress, and began to militarised the people. Tension was high between 505 to 510, but constant debate and an end to prosecution stopped the nation falling into civil war. The right continuously debates the left, while protecting the Monarchist who supported the right. While the left, wishes for a weak Congress and strong Consulate. continue to give more power for The Bank, intending to lessen the power of the Congress. When The Bank was finally given a share for the writing of budget in 524, the right finally left the Congress in protest, and their supporters rallies into military groups surrounding their constituencies. The next two year saw negotiations failed, and the nation plunged into crises. Unable to find common ground, while also trying to stop any large scale war to occurs, Consul Sedgwick Alleyton decided to terminates both offices for undecided periods. Local constituencies saw it as the end of the central government, and began to rule themselves locally. The republic was in essence already died by 527 ac. The three groups, the right, left, and Monarchist disintegrated into smaller groups and created their own domains.

The Hundred States Period

The Dark Ages

The earlier times of the hundred states period were not properly documented. There were fragments of information, suggesting continuous small warfare and skirmishes between smaller states as the three factions of the Republic disintegrated even more. Architectures of these times were also scarce, as the people of this time seemingly maintains to use the buildings from the Republican era. There were reports of hunger, disease, and even some major plague outbreak between 600 to 800 ac. After 800, there were more gaps of information, but a lot of foreign artifacts and battlefield remains, suggesting foreign raiders, or outright invaders from other place. Historian seemingly couldn't conclude on any matter regarding what really happened between 800 to 1000 ac.

After 1000 ac, information became plenty once more. The years between 1000 to 1300 ac were filled with local expansion and increase in population. Cities like Anuriel, Eranorth, and Creçore began to regain its status as centers of the realm, while bigger states start to annexs the smaller one. Few people were mentioned, but those who were mentioned had commited great deeds, or crimes. Such story, like the story of Duke Hamilton of Amber that manages to expand into a quarter of the realm, before splitting it up for his sons in his death bed. Other less glorious, such as the story of the Miracle Bandits, led by Adam Darian, who stupidly tries to steals Eranorth's coffer in the midnight of the Democracy Day (at that time called Clintinian Day) ended up jailed for good.

The Renaissance

Castle Grand Marie, with its pioneering formal gardens, built around 1450 ac.

The hundred states period encompasses the time of the spread of renaissance ideals throughout Urth in the 14th century. Even though the nation is disunited, and there were dozens of wars between the small states, art, culture, and scientific discovery were in abundance. Many lords or consulates built magnificence palaces to rival each other, while artistic patronage was at large. Scientific improvements of this time were primarily military in nature, but eventually the knowledge spreads to other parts of live. The peasants in particular raised into new level as then, there were no more citizenship laws; anyone living inside any territory is essentially a subjects to the local's law. This further increase connection for trade and commerce, even rivaling the rates during the Republic times.

There were actually less than a hundred of states in any given time. But, spanning for more than 12 centuries, there were indeed more than hundred states rising and falling in today's territory of Tissandra. Many of these states eventually coalesced into bigger one, most notably the Duchy of Ethring and the Republic of Anuriel which almost unifies the entire realm at some point of their existence. Some areas began to be more specialised than other; the eastern lands was predominantly agricultural, until marble quarries were founded during the 13th century and many farmer decided to mines for marble. Other places, such as Ethring, began to produce huge number of textiles and clothing due to their cotton farmlands. By the 17th century, gunpowder was used extensively, and many modern products began to be produced, such as book printing, ink pen, well pumps, and huge wooden sail ships.

The Industrial Revolution

Power loom, used by textiles industries around 1775 ac.

The 18th century saw the First Industrial Revolution, as the discovery of well pumps led to the discovery of machine pumps. The machine pumps were used to pums out water from coal and ore mines, boosting production more than double the times, and making prices for fuel to drop. Many cotraptions were made at this time; the Spinning Harry (a string threading machine built by Harry Jennings), and the steam powered factories which sprung out across the realm. Some older institutions, like banks and universities transforms into the modern structure we see now. While locals began to build free schools as education became more important. This era also marked by massive urbanization, as cities swelled in size. Arround 1772, railway network began to extends across the nation, and in 1781 the first steam boat canal was opened. Roads also widened, and the first kind of toll ways was opened between Anuriel and Creçore in 1765.

Although education and income began to increase, the quality of live were actually decreasing, as people working inside factories were lacking protection. Many accident happens, while coal and iron soot began to affect worker's health. Child labour was extensive to, and they were also exposed with lacks of protection to. There were no regulations, and many profiteers try to use this lack of government intervention to amass wealth as much as possible, culminating into the return of the Oligarchy as these people began to assert political influence over financial ones.

The Late 18th Century

Neverthelles, the disparates states finally decrease in number, as duchies and republics increase in power and size. The Duchy of Eranorh started a ferocious conquest and diplomatic annexations throughout the 15th and 16th century. They aggressively marries off their members of Dynasty to form alliances, and to annex far away lands. The shrewd practice managed to bring half of the realm into the Duchy's command. By the year 1701, The nation was half unified under Eranorth. During this time, the Palace of Glass was built in the suburbs of Eranorth to showcase the might of the Duke. When the Palace is finished in 1714 ac, during the time of Duke Charles XXVI, he coronated himself inside the palace as the first King of the descendants of Tissa; forming the Kingdom of Tissandra. The lords, mayors, consuls and locals already under Eranorth's sway subsequently approves his coronation. But the southwestern part of the realm denies the coronation, and declares Charles' claim unfounded. They gathers to form the Coalition for Tissandra, headed by the President of Anuriel (formerly Consul of Anuriel). The two factions maintain their cohesion throughout the rest of the 18th century, until the middle of the 19th century, with each claiming to be the rightful government for Tissandra. But only after Anuriel formally annexed all of the Coalition's members and forms the Republic of Tissandra in 1864, hostilities between the two nation escalated into all out war.

The First Civil War

Battle of Greenfields, the last battle of the First Civil War on its fourth day (8th of March 1868)

The First Civil War lasted for more than 3 years between 1865 to 1868, resulting in 500,000 casualties, and almost 150,000 deaths. The war was primarily fought among the borders, with each side trying to invade the others. There were four stages of the war, according to historian. The stages are : The Gulf Campaign, The Massif Central Campaign, The Highland Campaign, and The Greenfields Campaign.

The Gulf Campaign was the attempt of the Kingdom to invade the Republic and to besiege Anuriel. The campaign was a defeat, as waves after waves of Royalist Army were defeated along the coasts of Hikaru Gulf. The largest battle of this campaign was the Battle of Dren Bridge on 21st of September 1865, where 75,000 Royalist attempted to cross a bridge near Dren Village. The Royalist were forced to retreats and stops the invasion. The Massif Central Campaign was the second attempts of the Royalist to invade the Republican. This campaign was more succesful, and led to the Siege of Aminore, a strategic fortress that supplies Anuriel, on the 9th of April 1866. The siege were called off when the Republican invade the Kingdom in the Highland Campaign. The Highland Campaign was the longest of the other campaigns, leading to the evacuation of Eranorth on 7th of December 1866, and the Battle of Carrack on 16th of February 1867. The Republican was defeated at that battle and had to retreats back to Eranorth. They were once again defeated at the Battle of Marygold on 2nd of April 1867, and forced to withdraw back to the Republican territory in the Long Retreat that lasted until November 1867.

The winter of 1867 saw only small skirmishes with no major battles, as both sides are preparing for a last attempt to invade the other. The last phase of the war, The Greenfields Campaign, was a series of intelligence confusion and miss information that led into both army march into one another route. The Battle of Greenfields lasted for five days (4th to 9th of March 1868), resulted in almost 10,000 casualties. The battle ended in a draw, as both troops agreed into a cease-fire. A truce of 50 years was signed on the 11th of March 1868.

The East-West Divides and The Second Industrial Revolution

HMS Avery, the first steam powered battleship around 1892

The fifty years of truce between the Kingdom and the Republic of Tissandra were colloquially known as the East-West Divides. The period saw the Reconstruction Era between 1868 to 1888 on both nations, and also the advents of the Second Industrial Revolution. The Reconstruction Era brought the people of the Kingdom and of the Republic more closer than ever as both crossed the border regularly, but seemingly divides the political entity of both nations even more. There were now staunch movement for unification, and political parties on both sides began to coordinate joint events between the two halves. This distressed both the absolutist King of Tissandra, as well as the fanatic egalitarian of the Republic of Tissandra, who began to broadcast propaganda through the newly invented radios and newspapers.

The Second Industrial Revolution saw gas lights, radio signal, and cable telephones invented. These inventions allows factories to run 24 hours a day, and also increased the productivity and the livelihood of the markets with the advent of real time stock exchange. New regulations were put on both nations, to protect the safety and health if the workers. But laws regarding minimal wages and social benefits were still non-existent. Around this time the socialist ideals were brought to Tissandra from abroad. This, and the following Communist Manifesto, brought far left politics to the nation, opposing both Conservatives of the Kingdom, and the Liberals of the Republic. Many urban workers joined these ideals, and form joint parties, such as the Socialists for a United Tissandra Movement Party, the Commune of Tissandra, and the United Worker's Front. This angers the Conservative and the Liberals alike, who began to legislate laws against worker union and socialist dogma.

The Second Civil War

In 16th of April 1914, negotiations started in Varreylaigh, a village in the border, to determines the outcomes of the 50 years truce that will ends in 1918. The negotiations ended in failure when both the Kingdom and the Republic demanded each other subjugation. The subsequent failure culminated into a heated debate between the two leaders of the delegations, Prince Maximilian VII, King Ludwig XXII's cousin, and Minister of Foreign Affairs for The Republic of Tissandra, Retired Major General Richard Heather. The problem became personal when a duel challenge was proposed, and both men agreed. The duels, took place on 18th of April 1914 and resulted in both men died. The Prince's bullets hit the Minister's chest rather quickly. But when the Prince turned his back, the Minister, whom already laying in the floor, shoot his pistol directly to the prince's head. The duels became a diplomatic crises between the two nations. The Royal Family quickly distributes propaganda, demanding justice over the Prince's live, while in the Republic, the family of the minister, and the cabinet members started touring the nation demanding an action. After tensions and diplomatic back and forth, on 28th of July 1914, rifle shots began on the borders.

The war started with the Kingdom advances toward the Fortress of Aminore. The advances was stopped along River La Girona, culminating into the 1st Battle of La Girona that happens for two weeks (4th - 18th of August 1914). The Republican managed to pushed back the Royalist into the borders. But, when the Republican pushed back the Royalist, the Royalist already dug up trenches and fortified positions along the borders. The Republican troops follows suit, and the rest of the war, except on the highlands and the sea, became a Trench Warfare.
