Rosalica, officially the Margravate of Rosalica, is a small country located on the continent of Aurora, east of Valeria and west of Asilica. The country is a semi-constitutional monarchy currently headed by Margravine Rachel III.

In the 1600s, the region was united to form the principality under the House of Andisson. The family would continue to rule over the small nation, and entering into the 1800s saw the adoption of the Constitution of Rosalica which provided more governing rights to the people and solidified the nation’s neutral stance. The land of Rosalica is known for being a rich location for precious gems (such as opal and jade) and rare dyes, with many early nobility at times paying tributes to neighboring empires and nations such as Morstaybishlia to ensure their independence, especially during the Western Auroran Crusades. Entering into the 1900s, Rosalica would continue its neutral stance from the Great War to the Auroran-Pacific War.

Rosalica’s economy heavily relies on trade. The most well known resource is it’s precious gems and minerals, but it is mainly supported by it’s exportation of agricultural products, offshore drilling, and tourism. The nation is especially proud of its tourism industry with pristine beaches, flower-filled plains, and hundreds of high quality hotels and resorts. There is no longer a standing military besides the Royal Guardsmen, instead relying on deals and alliances with neighboring nations to ensure Rosalica’s protection. Rosalicans are best known for being nice and always willing to help, along with a strong loyalty to the royal family whose leadership many Rosalicans credit for keeping their homeland safe and out of conflict for so many years.

The current monarch and head of state is Margravine Rachel III. On 3 June 1560, the regional nobility united under the Hourse of Andisson, an Usprian Elven family hailing from the Castle of Rosalica, in order to keep the region independent as neighboring empires continue to grow in strength. The family would continue to rule over Rosalica for the next 400 years into present day. Following the adoption of the Constitution of Rosalica, the monarch continues to wield broad powers including being able to propose new legislation, veto laws passed by the Official Assembly, and call for referendums. The monarch is also given the power to appoint judges, dismiss ministers, and dissolve parliament. As head of state, the monarch also represents Rosalica in its international relations, but in recent years the reigning Margravine has appointed her daughter, Genevieve, as foreign representative.

The Executive Assembly is a collegiate government that serves as Rosalica's executive authority and consists of the Chancellor of Rosalica, who acts as head of government, and six other ministers.

The Official Assembly acts as the legislative body of the government, consisting of 100 members elected to serve six-year terms.

Geography

The total area of Rosalica is 66,750 square kilometers (25,772.3 sq mi), one of the smaller countries on Aurora. It is located on the southern end of Aurora, bordering South Staynes to the north and Asilica to the east. Most of the landscape consists of rolling plains with higher elevations to the north, light forests, and coastal lowlands. Most of the population is found along the coast, especially within the Rosalica Metropolitan Area with a population of around 2.5 million.

Demographics

According to 2020 estimates, the population of Rosalica is around 3,477,675. This results in the small nation having a population density of 52.1 km/2 (135 mi/2). Most of the population is located along the coast, especially around the capitol city of Rosalica. Its population primarily speak Rosalican, however Staynish, and to a lesser extent Ethalrian, are commonly spoken as a second language. Humans make up around 92% of the population with the rest being a mix of other species. Although Usprian elves only consist of a population of 104,330, or around 3% of the population, they have a large impact on Rosalica as they make up most of the nobility within the country, the royal family being the most recognizable example.

Economy

Rosalica is heavily dependent on international trade, especially on the exportation of agricultural products and precious metals. Foodstuffs and vegetable products make up the largest percentage of exported products, consisting of a variety of unique fruits and vegetables native only to the region. Rosalica is also known for its textile industry due to it's high quality cotton and silk products along with a long history in dye production. Cattle and dairy farming has seen a rise in recent years, along with petroleum extraction following the approval of limited offshore drilling. The nation's main trade partner is primarily UNAC, followed by countries further north in Yasteria, Arcturia, and Concord.

The tourism industry is one of the most important parts of Rosalica's economy. Entering into the 20th century in the early years of Rachel III's reign, the country turned it's focus toward funding and promoting the industry. Dozens of high quality resorts and hotels were built, and renovations were made to the numerous castles and fortresses that were built in the 16th and 17th centuries. One of the main attractions is the city of Rosalica itself, consisting of many historical monuments and structures such as the Palace of the Rose, Rosalica Castle, and Ewoud Janssens Museum of Art. The Andisson Botanical Garden is one of the largest botanic gardens consisting of the Rachel Primula Conservatory, a 45,000 square feet intricately designed glass structure built in 1880 under the request of Margave Filibert, which houses one of the largest collection of plants from around Urth. There are also a few natural attractions that is worth seeing. Tourists can visit the cliff faces that make up the country's western coastline or the pristine beaches that make up the eastern coastline. Inland, visitors are able to tour the nation's large flower fields which is always backdropped by a Rosalican castle.
