Maladh Al-Taajir (Taajiri: ملاذ التاجر), occasionally shortened to Al-Taajir, is a small nation on the eastern coast of Arcturia. It's closest neighbour is Sokala to the north. The capital and largest city, Khalij Al-Sayaadin, is home to a majority of the country's 3,500,000 people.
Maladh Al-Taajir was founded in Antiquity as a distant trading outpost of the Imbiraturian Empire. Slaves from the mainland were frequently resettled in the colony to grow its population. It is speculated that slaves outnumbered free men 50 to 1. Despite its status as a trading outpost, the slaves that were resettled were usually not exported elsewhere upon their arrival. All Taajiri people in the modern day can trace back a part of their ancestry to these slaves. Maladh Al-Taajir is the sole area of the world where Imbiraturia's language and culture persists.
Faith and government are separate under Taajiri law, though religion is of such importance that they are not separate in practice. Maladh Al-Taajir is predominantly an Almuridist nation. 89.1% of the population adhere to this religion.
Its power, influence, and importance to trade has waxed and waned throughout history. Under Imbiraturian rule, it was one of the region's most important ports. This period of growth and prosperity ended alongside the former empire, causing turmoil in Al-Taajir as different factions vied for power. Due to its strategic location as a connection between Arcturia and Aurora, it has been a protectorate of numerous past empires. Maladh Al-Taajir has been an independent nation since TBD.
