Meker is the capital and largest city of Mekedesh. The first settlement is traced back to circa 4,000 years ago. The first mention of the name of the area on a written text is a stone tablet called the Dulhadek Stelle dated to 2,000 years ago, which is roughly translated to Baskhadiya. During the Iron and Stone Age, a city was founded in the area and is believed to be proto-city of modern-day Meker, it was called Jypton and was the seat and name-sake of the Jyptonite Empire that spread across the Meked River and established an Empire that lasted centuries. With the spread of the ideas of Prophet Besmali through cultural exchange with the Kingdom of Yehudah and other polities in Ashura, Jypton (Yapthaan) adopted monotheism centred around Noi with the oldest known temple dedicated solely to her worship being the luMajhid luBas aYapthaan, whose ruins are located in the Jypton district.

By the 3rd century CE, Jypton and its empire had collapsed. The Bingolite Empire under the Warmadite dynasty conquered the the area of Jypton and resettled the city with its own people and others began to flood. Following attempts by King Obed II to add passages to the Vagumar that the King of Bakil, Iktan the Devout, did not approve of, the area was invaded and renamed Meker. Under the rule of the Iktanite dynasty, the city was granted to the Yashkunite clan which ruled over it for centuries until they were replaced by the Umbruhites after Lord Nabis Yashkun attempted overthrow High King Mudwan. Lord Thalhaad Umbruh was overthrown by Ihsan Thuliyat who established the Ihsanite dynasty and declared independence, establishing the Kingdom of Meker.

Meker was conquered by the Zubraynite dynasty of Tashkar and the Rashahadite clan was placed in charge of it and became part of Packilvania. In the 17th century CE, Lord Rabnion Rashahad sided with the Demirite dynasty following the exacting taxes and brutal rule of the Zubraynite dynasty and sent his army to fight for Saidun the Conqueror. The Rashahadites were rewarded with power and rule over the province of Mekedesh although a fall out in the 18th century led to the Governor's position rotating to various officials. The city was one of the first to fall to the rule of the Packilvanian Communist Party and was conquered by the People's Liberation Army. It's human population was brutally and systemically purged in the intervening years. The Bedonite dynasty did not take control of the city until after the Communist part formally surrendered. As part of the negotiated compromise, the party's officials kept their jobs in the city's Civil Services including the Party Secretary, Abriah Finham became the Chief Administrator for Meker.

Meker is built on the banks of the Meked River after which both the city and the province are named. It sits in the east of Mekedesh. It is located in a hot arid climate. The city tends to be hot and dry for most of the year. Nevertheless, mist from the evaporation of the river causes the city to be humid. Most the city's water needs are provided by the Meked River as well as underwater aquafirs. The city has several wetlands in its borders and various areas have been demarcated for nature conservation and public parks. Due to the heavy industrialisation, urbanisation, garbage and field burning, dust storms, and the proximity of agriculture, the city is prone to problems such as air and water pollution. Meker was identified as one of the most water-stressed cities in the country, with droughts causing cycles of water rationing.

The metropolitan area of Meker, which includes the cities of Raqad, Imbrahan and Ulqaydun, has a population of approximately 10 million people. The city, like many others in Packilvania, has highly liberal urban development and zoning policies which has led to a highly dense mixed use, mixed income neighbourhoods dominated by apartments. Additionally, because the city is hundreds of years old, it has many historic sites and ancient buildings including the Majhid aZygros muDushtet which was built in the 18th century CE. The Communist government attempted to introduce large scale urban blocks to house the population after the Great War and the First Packilvanian Civil War.

The incumbent Mayor is Samhadel a-Ixarion Mukhwadim while the Chief Administrator (muRayees muTamrir) is Abrihad a-Yakhdar Yuqsulmin.
