Endertopias, formally known as the Federation of Endertopias, is a country located in northern Novaris. It borders Gräntierik and Veria to the south and the southeast, respectively; it also shares border with Kelamí League to the north, and Vesienväl is just across a strait to the east. The total area of approximately 580,000 squared kilometers is home to a rapidly modernizing and internationalizing economy. The capital is Starynwale, and the largest city is Delphinia, both of which are located in New Endria.

The Federation comprises three main parts, the Crowned Republic of Iferia in the southwest, the Northern Counties in the north, and New Endria in the east.

The Federation of Endertopias has been a full member of the League of Novaris since 2021.

History

Prehistoric

The first inhabitants of Endertopias were elves who set foot on the western parts of the Endertopian Plain along with the western mountain ranges. Various tribes formed between the numerous peaks of the Flameflower Mountains. The eastern plains later saw the arrival of the first human settlers, also establishing their presence.

Age of Conquest

Over time, social structures and kingdoms started to rise. To the west, two tribes stood out from the rest: Nito in the north, and Ifer in the south. Their modern names come from their religions, with Nito standing for intelligence and wit, and Ifer representing power and passion. The two started to spread their influence around 200 BC, establishing elven kingdoms of the same names.

On the other side of the land, Sir Indre lead the effort to unite the human tribes of the plain.

Explorers from Asendavia also made their arrival around this time. The Asendavians proceeded to assist in Sir Indre's battles in hopes of cementing their own influence on the land. This led to the founding of the Kingdom of Endria in 83 BC with many Asendavian figures at the first King's sides. This involvement also introduced Ademarism to the Endertopian plain.

Tristate Era

The following times would come to be known as the Tristate Era, in which the Endertopian land is split between three more-or-less equally powerful kingdoms. The Kingdom of Endria occupies the majority of the Endertopian Plain and has much access to the open seas. Nito lies north of the plain, spanning mountains and seasides, and possessing valuable natural resources like the vast taiga and boreal forests. The land-locked Ifer occupies the south west and possesses a rather substantial iron reserve.

The buffer zones which originally existed between the three kingdoms quickly eroded away with quick expansions, especially that of Endria, which has now exerted its control over most of the plain. A prospect of conflict loomed over the land as the friction between the three continued to mount.

New Arrivals

Starting from the 10th century and throughout the rest of Endertopian history, a large number of foreign immigrants made their way here. The bulk of them had come from Cryria.

Notably, part of the elves that left Cryria due to war and similar reasons ended up crossing the strait and spreading themselves across the western ends of Nito and Ifer. Similarly, some of the nekomimis who fled their homeland founded themselves gravitating towards the northernly land of Nito.

Historians estimated that some 70,000 Cryrian elves and nekomimis emigrated to Nito and Ifer in the 10th and 11th century. The arrivals also brought about distinct twists and some Cryrian flavors in Endertopian culture and languages.

The Endertopian War

The Spark

In the spring of 1072, a group of Endrian loggers were captured when they were caught logging in Nito territories. They would later be executed. Some small-scale conflicts would quickly spiral out of control. With this a war between Endria and Nito sprang into action. The Kingdom of Endria scored some initial success in battles, but it quickly devolved into a standstill when fights pushed on to the northern Skywynne Mountains. Still, frequent rather small scale fights were somewhat common in the area, wearing down both party as time dragged on. In addition, naval blockade set up by Nito, aided by their supply of wood and experienced nekomimi sailors, made reinforcement particularly difficult for Endria.

Turntable

After multiple failed Endrian attempts to seize the strategically important Kiwo Valley, King Morleylan of Ifer decided to capitalize and led his army eastward. Within just a few weeks, Morleylan's army has made significant advancement across the open fields.

Union!!!

This surprise move shocked both Endria and Ifer, the former under big trouble and the latter fearing the over-empowering of Ifer should they control the vast lands of Endria. In the fall of 1096, Prince Lukane Lethmian of Endria led a small force and set off for Nito's capital to negotiate on behalf of his kingdom. The two kingdoms had common ground, and the talks were fruitful.

The Union Treaty of Endria and Nito was signed on November 17, 1096, in which the two kingdoms agree to a ceasefire and work together against Ifer.

Lukane's force returned to Endria three weeks after, heavily damaged, and the Prince was no longer. The killer was unknown at the time and many Endrian royals believed it was done by the nekomimis of Nito. Neverthenonetheless, the cooperative King Lethmian forced them to stick it, and the Union went forth. Later studies concluded that the assassination was, in fact, fabricated by opposing Endrian nobility in order to divide the Union.

Incursion

The newly assembled Union army, with all its resources and sea access, proved superior to the Iferian. Endrian army launched the first counterattack against Ifer in May of 1097, while they fought to take back the plain, in the Northern theatre, the Nitonian elves and nekomimis attempted to smash right through the mountain valleys. Fighting was especially brutal on the northern fronts, where both sides ambushed each other continuously amid the mountains and forests.

Unification

After years of battle, in 1106, Endrian armies managed to break through the Iferian defense and wrap around to converge with the northern front. The Iferian troops, now surrounded, fought fiercely but still had to fall back. The Battle of Iferia began in 1108 and ended three years later. On the 5th of May, 1111, the Kingdom of Ifer fell, its king slain, and its land was split between Nito and Endria.

The Play

Years of war and the tragic, unresolved loss of his son had taken their tolls on King Lethmian, who passed away in 1113. The opposition voices previously silenced by late King Lethmian sprang back into life as they took power, along with the death of Lukane, into their own hands.

Cruel fighting of the northern front has diminished Nito's power, and it was about to show. Troops rolled into Nito's territory in February of 1114, and despite Nito's fighting back and some supporters of Lethmian rallying against the operation, the King of Nito was captured and executed in 1120. With that, the Tristate was successfully united under the banner of the Kingdom of Endria.

The Transition

The time after the unification saw the elves and nekomimis once again repressed. Luckily for them, voices in support of better treatments of non-humans, albeit curbed by the downfall of the Lethmians, remained a part of Endria's upper class. With time, the increasing divide between both sides grew apparent. The Lethmians started regaining its former power and influence, especially in regions near Nito and Ifer, towards the west, all while remaining largely loyal to the Kingdom.

The Redemption War

Over the course of the next centuries, more elves and nekomimis arrived in Endria and the lands of the Lethmians. The balance of power gradually shifted to the west. In 1436, the Kingdom army rolled up to the Lethmians' doorstep, this marked the beginning of the Redemption War of the Lethmian to retake their throne.

The Church of Endria stayed mostly out of this conflict and left it up to the two royal families to sort themselves out. The Lethmian army, with the help of the local non-human population, pulled ahead after years of fighting. The ruling Kingdom of Endria conceded defeat in November of 1488, and the leader of the resistance, Valivia Lethmian, ascended the throne and became Queen of Endria in January 12th, 1489, starting a new era of Endertopias.

The New Age

In the aftermath of the war, Queen Valivia granted lands back to the elves and nekomimis in the historical land of Nito and Ifer. Lethmian family members were appointed to continue watching over the land, but it was largely autonomous. The new Kingdom of Endria, for the first time, saw a stable rule and prosperity.

The following centuries would see continued elven and nekomimi immigration from Cryria, flocking to the western territories under the direct but lenient control of the ruling Lethmians. The Kingdom also made efforts to secure its foreign relationships, especially that with Cryria. It was this effort that led Endria to its height of Ademarism adaptation, and Cryrian-influenced Ademarism is still one of the largest religions practiced today in the Endertopias.

As time went on, the legislative body Enderhalls started to gain more power and the country started to move away from absolute monarchy.

Federation

In the 19th century, calls to revolutionize the political system began, the opposition called for reforms to the Enderhalls for better regional representation. Elves and nekomimis of the west also jumped on the bandwagon and called for more power and representation of their regions. Poor harvests at the time only exasperated the situation.

The movement began on March 25th, 1821. The king eventually caved in to the requests in order to keep his position.

A new constitution was enacted and with it the Federation of Endertopias was born on the 9th of January, 1830. The Federation comprise three kingdoms, Endria, Nito, and Iferia. Despite the Kingdom of Endria still existing and being the largest constituency, the king's power is largely taken away.

Modern Era

As time went further along, all three kingdoms underwent sweeping societal and political changes. Endria gradually shifted to exist only in name as the influence of the monarch faded, though the Church maintains the kingdom's identity through its limited, but tangible powers. The Kingdom of Iferia was succeeded by the Crowned Republic. Nito would become known as a backcronym, the Northern Counties.

Geography and climate

Mountains

The Flameflower Pass

The Flameflower Pass is a narrow stretch of land sandwiched between two mountain ranges that are collectively called the Flameflower Mountains. The mountain pass connects two major cities, Eyjafyalland and Ifriti. Historically, the Flameflower Pass has been an important link between Ifer and Nito. Nowadays, the Pass is a national park and nature reserve. The Flameflower region got its name from the fiery-red flowers that bloom every year.

The Skywynne Mountains

Home to the highest peak of the country and one of the highest mountains of the continent, the Sorarian Peak, the Skywynne Mountains lies in the north. The Tran-Nitonian Walk, a hundred-kilometer path, and the Sorarian Peak, standing at an elevation of 5,266 meters, are both popular destinations for hikers and mountaineers.

The Melland Mountains

Located in the south, the Melland National Park is home to the most variety of animals and plants in Endertopias. The Melland also connects the western extremities of Maberg, Anfissa, and Exusia to the rest of the country.

Waterways

The Angelina River has two branches, with one originating from the Flameflower Mountains, and the other from the Skywynne Mountains. The two branches join to form the longest and most important river in the country. The Angelina River meets the ocean at Starynwale, nurturing the capital as it developed over the years.

Politics and government

Government

Endertopias is a Federal Parliamentary Republic. Despite that, the powers of the monarch of the Kingdom of Endria is still somewhat present in the form of the Endertopian Church of Ademar (ECA), headed by previous royalties, namely the Lethmian. Two of Endertopias' constituencies, the Crowned Republic of Iferia and the Northern Counties, are both Constitutional Monarchies. This has led some people to suggest that the leader of the ECA, chosen in an internal voting process, functions as a ceremonial leader of Endertopias, a union of monarchies, therefore the country could also be viewed as a Federal Monarchy.

While constituencies have their own parliaments, the Enderhalls is the legislative body of the Federation and possesses the power to overrule certain regional laws. The Enderhalls consists of two houses, the Hallowl (Hall of the Sky) and the Hallerth (Hall of the Land). The Hallowl contains 36 seats evenly divided between Iferia, New Endria, and the Northern Counties. The seats are filled by the constituencies themselves in whatever way they see fit, though all areas of the Federation currently use plurality block voting to elect all members of the Hallowl. A simple majority with at least one vote for from all three constituencies is needed for bills to pass, and an 18-18 draw is considered a pass.

The lower chamber, Hallerth, consists of 651 seats. The method of election varies, states of New Endria including Starynwale elect a total of 414 seats by instant-runoff voting; the Northern Counties elect 130 seats with plurality block voting, while Iferia fills 107 seats with proportional representation. Members of the Hallerth are elected to four-year terms, including the Prime Minister, elected within the Hallerth by instant-runoff voting. No-trust votes have not yet happened in Enderhalls' history.

Distribution of the Hallerth, 2020
  Air of Freedom: 284 seats
  Social Movement Endertopias: 162 seats
  Ender Union: 82 seats
  Baileyi: 77 seats
  Elven League: 31 seats
  Green: 15 seats

Mail-in ballots are available in the Northern Counties.

The Enderhalls uses a Westminster style of debate, in which representatives assume two different sides and argue in an orderly fashion.

Current government

The current government is formed of the Air of Freedom Party and the Baileyi Party. Lyme Luke is the leader of the AFP.

Foreign policies

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is located in the city of Tenshily, headed by Foreign Affairs Minister Rushiana Correia. The foreign policies of the modern days aims to improve the economy and promote trade and tourism. Cryria, with its close historical ties with the Federation, remains Endertopias' largest trade partner. The Federation also joined the League of Novaris in search of more opportunities.

Law enforcement

The Endertopian Police handles all ordinary police businesses. In more serious and important missions they may be accompanied by the Eclipse, a special task force which is a distinct branch of the Endertopian military.

The most severe punishment in Endertopian laws is death, though it is very rarely practiced in civilian contexts. Following the Souls' Rights Act of 2018, same-sex marriages are legally recognized. Euthanasia is legal under the condition that the patient is conscious and makes an informed decision, or in cases where the patient is unconscious, the family makes an informed decision. The acts of euthanasia are to be performed only by the government-sanctioned Euphornasia Institute.

The legal drinking age in Endertopias is 16 across all three lands.

Military

Main article (WIP): Endertopian Armed Forces

The Endertopian Armed Forces comprises the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and the Eclipse Special Tactics Team. Historically, it has been referred to as the Enderton Army, some say for brevity reasons. Less commonly, it is referred to by the ceremonial name, Komirian Army, so named after a legendary figure General Komi. The Endertopian Armed Forces currently has just over 100,000 active personnel, with roughly 250,000 in reserve. A three-month basic military training is compulsory, though it can be replaced by other social work. The majority of personnel is voluntary and professional.

Endertopias imports most of its arm from aboard, with Cryria again being a major supplier. The Federation has also developed weapons and technologies in-house, focusing on relatively simple and effective equipment for asymmetrical warfare, especially missiles and projectiles.

Culture, religion, and demography

Demography

The population of Endertopias is estimated to be 32.76 million (2022). Of which 4.41 million lives within the City of Starynwale, and 16.44 million lives in the rest of New Endria, for a total of 20.85 million (63.6%). The Crowned Republic of Iferia and the Northern Counties is home to 5.37 and 6.54 million people, respectively.

In terms of species, the Federation as a whole is 60% human, 27% elf, and 12% nekomimi. This number is consistent in the capital of Starynwale. New Endria has a higher human percentage of 78%, while Iferia has a higher share of elves at 49%, and most nekomimis live in the Northern Counties, where they account for 39% of the population. Despite these regional differences, the levels of economic development does not vary widely between the three lands. Differences between the cities and countryside of each land is way more apparent.

Religion

Endertopias has no official religion and government operations are by law separate from religions. Ademarism was first brought in by Asendavian immigrants and cemented later by Cryrians. The Endertopian Church of Ademar is headed by Osterik Lethmian, a member of the former Endrian royalty. Other polytheistic religions of elves are widely practised especially in Iferia. There is also an increasing part of irreligious population.

Home of the Wine

The original Endertopian people were great enjoyers and makers of alcohol. The climate of the Endertopian south is good and makes for an alcohol-loving culture with a legal drinking age as low as 16. Traditional wine from the Anfissa region is well-loved by the Endertopian public, and the Brewery Association of Endertopias is actively promoting Endertopian wine to the international market.

Economy

The Endertopian economy has a GDP of roughly $1.2 trillion. The government places great emphasis on the tourism and high-tech industries, the domestic wine industry is also on the rise. And the country's vast boreal forest also makes for great woods for export, but the lumbering industry is on a downward trend due to tightening environmental regulations.

Transportation infrastructure

Railway

Main article: Enderloop

The national rail carrier is the Enderloop Company, headquartered in Eyjafjalland, NC. Enderloop owns and operates railroad tracks all across the country, including high-speed tracks connecting the major cities. The high-speed services opened in 2008 and runs at a maximum speed of 320 km/h. The company also operates overnight sleeper services that run across the country.

Highways

Main article: Autobahn in Endertopias

The Automobile Broad Accommodation Highway Network (Autobahn), maintained and overseen by the National Autobahn Administration, is the country's comprehensive highway system. It has no speed limits in some areas. The stretch of roads of A80 from Amina to Tenshily is often dubbed the best driving roads of Endertopias.

Sea transports

The Port of Portine is Endertopias' biggest port. Handling 47% of Endertopian maritime cargo by value.
