On 14 May 2023, a vote of no confidence was initiated in the incumbent Chancellor of Cappedore, Maya Murray, after the Fall of Absolution to the Wealdenite Insurgency on 13 May 2023. The vote saw the collapse of the Welfare Coalition government, with both the Liberal Union and the Green Party walking out on the CSDP, with mass CSDP defections to the Wealdenite-backed People's Reform Party. Murray was ultimately toppled from power.

The same night, Wealdenite protestors descended upon the Palace of Absolution ordering for the president, Austin Merrill, to sign a repeal of the Cappedorite Concordat and his instant resignation, which has not yet been answered.

In the early hours of 15 May 2023, the new Wealdenite acting chancellor and leader of the movement, Cathryn Gargano, announced the immediate dissolution of the Gemotern, further pressurizing the president to break his silence and dissolve the United Assembly and indeed sign a consent agreement to repeal the concordat of Cappedore.

Background

Main article: Wealdenite Revolution

On 13 May 2023, the main offices of the United Assembly were attacked and raided by pro-Wealdenite rioters, supported by the majority of opposition parties in the United Assembly. Later, on 14 May, Thomas Coleman of the Liberal Union announced his immediate resignation as First Deputy Chancellor, and his intent to pull his party out of the Welfare Coalition, dismantling the coalition in the process and greatly weakening the CSDP's Gemotern majority. The Green Party later followed suit.

Riots in Absolution started in January 2023 after the repealing of the Fixed Term Gemotern Act 2005, which mandated that the government must hold an election every 5 years. The repealing of the act meant that Murray and the CSDP were no longer required to hold democratic elections. This caused a mass outbreak of riots all over the country, with the State of Thomaria declaring its secession from the union on 21 February, however, this was unrecognised by the United Republic.
