The Toré eruption of Toré Volcano, in the Oblivion Islands was the world's most recent VEI 8 supereruption in 512 CE, and largest ultra-plinian phreatic eruption for over thirty thousand years. The eruption destroyed Impelanza, ravaged civilisations nearby and across the world in various ways, notably by its ash clouds blocking out the sun and causing a moderate global volcanic winter.
