The Department of Defense and Disaster Response, sometimes shortened to as the "D-R," "D-D-D-R," or "Department of Defense," represents the armed forces of Emberwood Coast. The DDDR consists of six branches, making up six of the eight uniformed services of Emberwood Coast: the Navy (officially the Naval Guard), Coast Guard (offically the Naval Patrol), Expeditionary Force, Civil Defense Force, and Auxiliary Corps.

The organization is tasked primarily with the military defense of Emberwood Coast and Emberitian interests from foreign harm. Outside of combat, its forces are deployed in sapientarian theaters, supporting relief efforts in war zones and disaster areas with its three full-size Savior-Class hospital ships. Domestic relief efforts (typically in response to hurricanes and earthquakes) also fall under the purview of the DDDR,
