The Alkari Ultimate League (Alkari: something something) is an Ultimate Frisbee League that is based in Alksearia. While Ultimate started around the year 1890, the first League wasn't developed until 1905. The current AUL consists of 32 teams split into 4 conferences. The current 2020-21 Season was suspended during the Balistrian Coalition War, however, games resumed 2 weeks after the war ended. With the delay in the season, the season is still ongoing to the present day, however, the typical season runs September to June culminating in the AUL playoffs.

Another unfortunate consequence of the war was the complete death of the Rohsall Royalists. A spokesman for the family that own the team said, "We are grieving the loss of our friends and loved ones from Roshall. At this time, the family is in discussions with the League about what they are to do. The family has made the difficult decision to forfeit all remaining games in the season. An update will be provided at another time."

Rules

League Rules

League Rules, or more commonly referred to as "Regulation Play', are the rules that are followed during the regular season. These are also the "base" rules that the other rule sets follow.

  • Each team is consisted of 28 players with 7 subs.
  • A game is separated into 3 periods of 20 minutes each. A 15 minute intermission is observed after the first and second period.
  • A win is worth 2 points, a tie is worth 1 point, and a loss is 0 points
  • Each team has 7 players on the field. Traditionally, it is split into 3 Linemen and 4 Defensemen.[n 1]
  • Points are earned by getting the disk down the field to the opposing end zone. Every point, the teams switch end zones. The scoring team stays in the end zone, and the opposing team goes to the other end zone.
  • Each team has 70 seconds after scoring to pull.
  • At the beginning of the game, a disk is flipped to determine who will pull and who will be receiving.

Playoff Rules

At the end of the Season, A playoff tournament is held to determine the AUL Champion, awarding them the Royal Cup[TEMP NAME PLZ CHANGE LATER]. The rules largely stay the same except for some notable differences:

  • Playoff eligibility is determined in one of two ways.
    • If a Team finishes in the top 2 in their conference, they automatically qualify for playoffs
  • If a game is tied at the end of regulation, the game continues to play into overtime until at the end of a period one team is the victor.
  • After 2OT, only 5 players from each team can be on the field at a time.[n 2]

Controversies

An Ambassador from Nystatiszna once declared that a frisbee is a "deadly weapon." This statement is highly disputed, and is factually incorrect. The AUL League Officials have declared this statement "slander" and an "insult to a game that's been around for 116 years." The AUL has sent a cease and desist letter to the ambassador.

Notes

  1. Teams are free to play with the number of Linemen and Defensemen named on the field, but the total number of players on the field for a given team cannot exceed 7.
  2. This rule was instituted after the controversial semifinals game in 1992 between the Roshall Royalists and the Urgia-Nova Warriors. It has been amended twice since it's inception: one in 2000 and a second time in 2008
