Elections were held on September 9, 2024 to determine the composition of the 14th Witenagemot under Ælfric III, which determines the government of Tretrid. The governing Social Democratic Party of Tretrid (ÞSD) lost a large amount of seats, primarily to the Ulvriktru Democratic Party (ÞUD). The election was the first time the Ulvriktru Democrats gained a plurality in the Witan since 2007.

The election is the first to feature the New Liberal Party (NLP), a splinter party of the Liberal Democratic Party that sought to uphold the principles of the old LDP while disavowing the corruption that the party had become infamous for over the past 10 years.

Under term limits laid out in the Charter of Privileges, a session of the Witenagemot cannot serve for longer than 5 years under normal circumstances, though by custom elections are usually called after around 4 years. On December 30, Prime Minister Eoforwine Æthelstanesunu confirmed that the next election would be held sometime in 2024, and also stated his intention to retire from politics by not running for reelection. On January 30, Æthelstanesunu formally stepped down as Leader of the ÞSD, and Minister of Defense Eadmund Waldhergesunu was elected as the new party leader.

On March 21, a contingent of LDP councilors announced the formation of the NLP, fully breaking with the old party. The majority of the LDP councilors in the Witenagemot proceeded to defect over to the NLP over the course of the next month, and a couple of independent councilors that had previously left the LDP, most notably former Prime Minister Sæflæd Ealdhergesdohter, also joined the new party.

Foreign affairs became a more significant part of Tretridian political discourse in the lead-up to the election as a result of the Correvan Crisis and its aftershocks. The ÞSD has largely positioned itself behind the foreign policy carried out under the Æthelstanesunu government, while opposition parties (namely the ÞUD) have attacked current foreign policy aims and proposed their own priorities. The economic reforms pushed by the ÞSD have also been subject to political discussion due to Æthelstanesunu's nationalization of the utilities and other policies that critics have argued would harm the Tretridian economy in the long term.

On July 17, after a formal request from Æthelstanesunu, King Ælfric III announced that the election would be held on September 9. Following standard procedure, the Witenagemot was prorogued on August 12, 28 days before the election. It was formally dissolved on the day absentee ballots were sent out on August 26.
