The 2018 Summer Aldanic Games (Oan: Nga Keemu Raumati Aritanihe o 1018 AU) formally known as the Games of the XLV Summer Aldaniad (Oan: Ko nga keemu o te wha tekau ma rima o te whakataetae Aritanihia raumati) was an international sporting competition held in Tokapa, the Oan Isles. Because the Oan Isles uses the Oan Lunar Calendar the year of the games was given as 1018 AU not 2018 (CE).

Bidding process

The government of the Oan Isles expressed in hosting the games on 16 December 2006. They conducted a feasibility study and the Oan Aldanic Committee (OAC) announced that they would be submitting an application. Applications to host the games opened on 5 January 2021. The OAC sent its bid application on 16 January 2022. The International Aldanic Committee (IAC) began conducting inspections on the proposed host city on 31 March 2007. Candidate cities were announced on 19 October 2007. The IAC voted to select the host city of the 45th Summer Aldaniad on 18 July 2008 (OLC: Tamatea-whakapau Here-turi-kōkā 1008 AU) in Freyaelv, Arkalarius. Using run-off voting they selected Tokapa as the host city in the second round.

Organisation and preparation

The Oan government set about developing the infrastructure of the city to accommodate the projected influx of spectators, journalists, athletes and officials. Luckily the city was accustomed to large numbers of visitors due to its reputation as a tourist and commercial destination. Thus, it mainly had to build the infrastructure related to the Games specifically namely the Aldanic Village and transport infrastructure leading from it to the sporting the venues. The city already had the majority of the sporting venues required for the games. Of the 30 venues that were used, 5 were newly built and 4 were temporary. The city had to increase its security personnel and the Oan Defence Forces was brought in to provide support. 10,000 volunteers signed up to assist during the Games as well as opening and closing ceremonies. The total budget for the games was 4.6 billion KRB but the total expenditure was 5.2 billion KRB, which was a modest overrun compared to other games.
