Ubran is a city in the Fidakar province of Packilvania that is the second largest city in that province by population.

Geography

The city is situated on the banks of the Yukud River, a tributary of the Ubrahamahan River and one of the great rivers of the Packilvania on whose banks are the cities of Exeter, Tuwak and Juyamil that form the Yukud River Conurbation that houses nearly 50 million people. The Yukud River originates from the Uliveru Mountains in Tasselvalta. The city is surrounded by the Khurnayda Mountains, whose peaks, the highest of which is the Mount Yamakhar which rises over 1,000 metres above sea level and provides a stunning backdrop to the city and forms part of a protected area of sub-tropical rainforests, streams and waterfalls that house a plethora of animals. Located in the interior of the country, close to its eastern frontier, the city experiences significant precipitation for much but not all of the year and relatively high temperatures (somewhat moderated by the winds and propensity for cloudy skies). As a densely populated city with significant industry that grew rapidly, the surrounding ecosystem suffered heavy damage and significant biodiversity was lost coupled with the pollution of waterways and excessive extraction of natural resources. However, efforts to moderate population growth through migration controls (despite their questionable sentient rights implications), diversification of energy to renewable sources, restriction of automobiles, and rehabilitation of wetlands and forests, has enabled moderate recovery of the natural environment including improvements in air quality, smog and acid rain.

Government

The city is governed by the Ubran Local Government. The Mayor is the executive leader of the province and he is appointed by the Provincial Government of Fidakar. The Mayor, currently Thayub Lokhanid, appoints a Mayoral Committee to exercises the daily running of the city while policy formation within the bounds of the matters of which the city has jurisdiction is administered by the Municipal Council chaired by Ubrayal Imhodil and composed of representatives elected by the citizens. The city is the site of one of the branches or offices of the High Court of Fidakar, and is served by several regional, district and local courts.
