The 2021 Joralesian riots wereare a series of ongoing riots that began on 8 March 2021 after Prime Minister Franklin Barvata of Great Morstaybishlia enacted Black Alert as a preventative measure across all of Joralesia following the 2021 Joralesian attacks - the worst terrorist attacks in Joralesian history.

Local protests began in Ewising before quickly spreading regionwide and to over 31 cities and towns. Polls in April 2021 estimated that between 750,000 and 1.2 million people had participated at some point in the demonstrations, making the protests the fourth largest in Joralesian history.

While the majority of protests have been peaceful, demonstrations in some cities escalated into riots, looting, and street skirmishes with police and counter-protesters. Some police responded to protests with instances of notable violence, including against reporters. 5 cities had imposed curfews by April 2021. The deployment of the armed forces has seen the third biggest military operation in Joralesian peacetime. By the end of March, at least 1,500 people had been arrested. In two polls by the MBC and STV, 85.4 and 86.1 percent of 754 individual protests did not result in property damage or injury, but it is estimated that arson, vandalism, and looting between 8 March and 5 April were tabulated to have caused ♅200-300 in insured damages regionally—the second highest recorded damage from civil disorder in Joralesian history.

The protests continued through the 2021 Great Morstaybishlia general election period and has caused a regionwide identity crisis on independence from the MBE, where anti-protests in dozens of cities have tried to stop the protests.

Riots in Ewising especially became increasingly violent, though other cities had separate instances of violence. Protesters targeted police with objects such as rubble, glass bottles and metal objects. Police numbers tenfold and violent protests ensued throughout the first night.

The police responded to the violence with force, and used batons, pepper spray and tear gas to subdue the crowd. Whilst tear gas is not illegal against protesters, its use was seen as hugely controversial among anti-Black Alert protesters and only fueled the protests.

Police made over seven hundred arrests in the first 24 hours.
