The Royal Antoran Armed Legions (Corric: Legiones Armas de Antora Réal, abbreviated LAAR,) is the terrestrial branch of the Royal Antoran Defense Forces. The Legions were founded in 1258 in the Kingdom of Casilló, as a consolidation of the professional men-at-arms cavalry of King Arturo I, which were instrumental in conquering the smaller petty-kingdoms that now made up the state. Over the centuries various Arranzic monarchs would expand upon the Legions until they formed the core of the standing army, ten-thousand strong. When the Kingdom of Réal was conquered and absorbed, the new Kingdom of Corrí doubled the size of the Legions. King Felipé III renamed the army the Royal Corric Armed Legions. Training, modern equipment, and a love of their homeland has always ensured the Legions have been a formidable defense for the Corric people, though their size has diminished in the past two centuries.

The Legions remained intact in the face of the Corric Succession Crisis of 1985. The long history of the service has kept certain traditions alive, including chivalric oaths of fealty to monarch and country. These oaths are considered outdated, but many Legionnaires report that they helped maintain unit cohesion and loyalty in the face of near-fracturing of the royal family. In 2022, the Legions were renamed to the Royal Antoran Armed Legions.

The mission statement of the Legions is to guard the borders of Antoran territory and the lands within from domestic or foreign threats, to protect the people from tyranny, and to exercise the will of the Crown upon the nations enemies. The Armed Legions have a total strength circa 2021 of 115,156 soldiers, support staff, and civilian contractors.

Organization

The Armed Legions operate fifteen divisions, or 'Legions.' Fourteen of these Legions have a strength of around eight thousand, while the Command Legion has a strength of three thousand. The branch is headed by the Chief General of the Legions, an appointed position on the Royal Antoran Defense Forces General Staff. Operational control and command of the 15th Legion is given to the Legion Marshal, the most senior commissioned officer in the service. The Legion Marshal chairs the Board of Generals, which is populated by the commanding officers of each of the Legions, and overseers administrative and operational objectives for the service. The current Chief General is Salvador Ballester, previously General of the 3rd Legion. The current Legion Marshal is Ana Isabel de Durans, the Countess Durans.

Armed Legions Structure

Division-structured units within the Armed Legions are known as Legions, while units that have between 800 and 1,800 troops are called Regiments. Units between 500 and 800 troops are called Companies. Legion-echelon maneuvers are rare in peacetime, so most Regiment and Company-level units are considered independent entities in most circumstances.
