Reuben Anselm Barclay-Shaw (born 26 August 1997) is a Wealdenite politician, activist, and author, serving as Leader of the Union of Liberals in Wealden since 2023. He is the youngest leader of a party in Wealdenite history, assuming office at the age of 25 after running unopposed.

Barclay-Shaw is a passionate activist and reformer, and actively protested against the Cappedorite state during the Homradska. He supports greater devolution, a reformed legislature for Wealden, and greater devolved powers to the islands of Attlee, Amorterra, and other overseas territories of Wealden.

Early life

Barclay-Shaw was born on 26 August 1997 in Lionsea, to Elizabeth Barclay and John Shaw. He has two older siblings. His father was a civil servant, and his family was often moving all around Wealden for his father's work. As a result of this, Reuben had attended at least 4 primary schools before reaching the age of 10. His parents divorced in 2008, when Reuben was 11, which had a great impact on his childhood. On 15 October 2010, Reuben's eldest brother, Richard (born 1992) went into cardiac arrest, and tragically passed away, which also negatively effected him and his family.

Reuben moved away from his mother in 2015 to Moyen-Orient to study law. He graduated in 2018, and started work for a local law firm, owning his own flat and having complete control over his own life. He joined the Liberal Union in 2018 and volunteered for local campaigns.

Career

In 2023, Reuben ran to become leader of the Liberal Union after the resignation of Thomas Coleman as a result of the 2023 coup. He ran unopposed, and therefore was instantly appointed as leader by the member base. He is the youngest party leader in Wealdenite history, being 25 when assuming office on 18 May 2023. He cites Vikki Slade as one of his biggest influences, and appointed her as chair of the party on the same day that he became leader. He has publicly stated that he "looks forward to working with Cathryn Gargano to secure a brighter future for the new Wealdenite Republic."

Personal life

Reuben is openly bisexual.

In 2021, Reuben was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition which he inherited from his mother.
