Frayed Republic

Frayed Republic: The Making of Modern Wealden (or just simply, Frayed Republic) is an ongoing roleplay, started in 2024, by Wealden. It documents political happenings and events in Wealden since the re-election of Andrii Vasylyk as prime minister in 2020, and the events following his death in 2021. It is written as journal entries in the point of view of Wealdenite civil servant and senior cabinet advisor Nikolai Pavlovich, and follows the behaviours of certain Wealdenite politicans such as Nina Boyko, Ruslan Zyma, and Dmytro Lysenko. It will specifically cover the details of the 2024 Wealden general election.

In May 2024, the prologue of Frayed Republic was posted, unannounced. Its first chapter is yet to be released. Chapters are not released on any particular fixed schedule, however it is believed that they will be released about once a month.

Summary

Frayed Republic is the story of the political climate of the Republic of Wealden in the present day.

Starting in 2020, and recounting all events up until 2024, Frayed Republic will be the documentation of all political happenings in Wealden since 2020 – the election of Andrii Vasylyk – up until today; the fall of Nina Boyko’s government and the Worker’s Labour Party.

Written from the perspective of Nikolai Pavlovich (real name Maxim Viktor Yaroslavovich), a Wealdenite civil servant who was appointed as an advisor to the cabinet office of Wealden in 2019. It will study the psychology of Wealdenite politicians – particularly Andrii Vasylyk in the months leading to his sudden and unexpected death – and others such as Nina Boyko, the rise of Ruslan Zyma, and the return of Dmytro Lysenko.

Characters

Main

Nikolai Pavlovich (born 1984) – a Wealdenite civil servant and author who was appointed to work for the government, becoming one of its closest aides, in 2019.

Andrii Vasylyk (1965 – 2021) – the former prime minister, having served two times. From 2014 until 2017, and from 2020 until 2021. Vasylyk oversaw some of the most turbulent and darkest times in Wealdenite politics and is seen as a very interesting and somewhat controversial figure.

Nina Boyko (born 1983) – the current prime minister, assuming office about a month after Vasylyk’s death. Heavily viewed as incompetent not only by the country, but by her own party as well. However, it’s important to note that she wasn’t given the easiest start to her position.

Ruslan Zyma (born 1976) – a former wrestler known as Perimeter, who turned to politics after his retirement. Zyma became the leader of the Moderate Party in 2022, in in 2023 he became the nation’s favourite to be suited as the next prime minister.

Dmytro Lysenko (born 1978) – an MP, the leader of the newly formed Constitutional Reform Party, and a former member of the Worker’s Labour Party who fell out with the community in 2013 following a series of disagreements. Also heavily regarded as a controversial figure in Wealdenite politics – particularly for his known dislike towards politicians such as Vasylyk, Boyko, and Wealdenite president Mykhailo Marchenko.

Recurring

Mykhailo Marchenko (born 1968) – the president of Wealden.

News reports

Alongside the chapters, news reports on behalf of the Wealdenite Television & Broadcasting Commission (WTBC or WTVBC) are released regularly as a part of the roleplay. However, unlike the chapters, they do not cover historical events prior to May 2024; instead, they provide live updates on the political, social, military, diplomatic, and domestic happenings and situations of Wealden. The first news report is due to be released towards the end of May 2024, covering the 2024 Wealden general election.

0 Prologue May 2, 2024 It’s the evening of January 1, 2024, on a rainy night in Zverovia, Southern Wealden. Nikolai is at home beginning this journal – and recounting the events of the last five years. He speaks of Vasylyk, the Worker’s Labour Party and their rise to power, the struggles of Nina Boyko, the disappearances of five Wealdenite politicians between 2021 and 2023, and the suspicious yet unknown circumstances surrounding Vasylyk’s sudden death.

Nikolai is non-partisan; he does not help the WLP prepare for the upcoming election season, despite the clear fact that they’re going to be facing an electoral wipeout at the hands of Ruslan Zyma and Dmytro Lysenko.

It is a worrying time in Wealdenite politics. Nikolai starts this journal of events, and he takes the reader back to March of 2020; the re-election of Andrii Vasylyk as prime minister and the return of the Worker’s Labour Party after nearly three years.
