The Elizabeth class of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers is the latest design out of South Hills for a nuclear powered modern aircraft carrier. Construction began in 2009 on the first in the class, Elizabeth, which launched mid 2013 and became operational early 2014.

The class of ships features electromagnetic aircraft launch systems, improved aircraft arresting gear, and automated systems cutting down dramatically on the ships crew complement.

Improvements over Forward class

The class features several major improvements:

• Advanced arresting gear.
• Automation, which reduces crew requirements by several hundred from the Forward-class carrier.
• AN/SPY-3 dual-band radar, as developed for the Miles Prower Heavy Destroyers, and arguably the most advanced on Mundus.
• An Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) in place of traditional steam catapults for launching aircraft.
• A new nuclear reactor design for greater power generation.
• Stealth features to reduce the ships radar cross section.
• The ability to carry up to 90 aircraft.
