The Bank of Cerdani (Cerdan: Bank von Deutschlands) is the central bank of the Cerdani Democratic Republic (East Cerdani). The bank does not function as a commercial bank, and has the responsibility for the issue of money and control of money circulation, administration of the exchange control regulations and settlement of foreign currency accounts with overseas companies and governments and partially controls the monetary policy of East Cerdani.

History

The Bank of Cerdani has it's roots in the creation of the Central Cerdani Bank in 1885, which was created to centralise the banking affairs of the Cerdani Empire. Following the civil war the new communist government in East Cerdani took over, without compensation, the operations of Central Cerdani Bank across the territory it managed. This became the nucleus of Bank of Cerdani.

In 1924 the government nationalised all banks in the country, including the Deutscher Bankhaus, and the Cerdan operations of Kredit, Handels und Industriebank and merged them together with the Central Cerdani Bank into Bank of Cerdani. At the same time it closed the operations of Nationale Entwicklungsbank and Standard-Gesamtbank. It also created the Volksentwicklungsbank by merging Kredit aus Deutschland and Handels und Sozialbank Deutschlands.
