In 2016, federal elections were held to elect the 38th [[Oscrelian National Assembly|Assembly]]. This election once again saw the victory of Ernest Harvey's coalition. However, the new, ambitious leader of the SDO, Lauren Ryder, had the SDO leave the DUP-NLP coalition, severely weakening Harvey's coalition government.
