She was the [[Ministry of Justice (Ozyoretsk)\|Minister of Justice]] of [[Ozyoretsk Oblast\|Ozyoretsk]] from 2002 to 2009, and a [[Federal Council\|Federal Councilor]] from Ozyoretsk from 2009 to 2017. Surkova graduated from [[Ozyoretsk Federal University]] and [[Ilyushin University\|Ilyushin University School of Law]]. She worked for five years as a criminal prosecutor in the Mahigorod District Attorney's Office and three years as a prosecutor in the [[Volkian Federal Attorney\|Federal Attorney's Office]] in Volkgoroda, before being elected Ozyoretsk minister of justice in 2001, replacing Vadim Ikanov. Reelected in 2005, she resigned from her position in order to take her seat in the [[Federal Council]] following her victory in the 2008 elections. Surkova served two terms as a Federal Councilor before winning her party's nomination for the [[2016 Volkian presidential election]].
