This template can be used to put vexillological flag identification symbols in flag descriptions. Furthermore, when this template is used, some explanation text will be shown when the mouse pointer is placed over the displayed symbol. A bug in WP:Navigation popups will prevent this.

Usage

To display a symbol, use:

{{IFIS|<symbol>}}

For example, {{IFIS|De facto}} gives . The parameters are case-sensitive.

Parameters

Parameter Symbol Description
Normal Normal or de jure version of flag, or obverse side
Proposed Design proposed but not officially adopted
Reconstruction Design is a reconstruction based on observations
Reverse Reverse side of flag
Variant Design is an acceptable variant
Alternate Alternative version of flag
De facto De facto version of flag
Two-sided Flag has different designs on its obverse side and its reverse side
Sinister Obverse side meant to be hoisted with pole to the observer's right
Authorised Design officially authorized to represent nation by government of that nation
Historical Design used in the past, but now abandoned (not part of Smith's original set)
Mirror Reverse side is mirror image of obverse side
Equal Reverse side is congruent with obverse side
No reverse info Information on reverse side is not available
Vertical normal Flag can be hung vertically by hoisting on a normal pole, then turning the pole 90°
Vertical rotated Flag can be hung vertically by rotating the design first
Vertical unknown Vertical hoist method of flag is unknown
Vertical inapplicable Design has no element that can be rotated
Vertical exclusive Flag can be hoisted vertically only
