Today, little governance or political events happen at the Palace, though it remains the primary receiving residence for the Royal Family and monarch when foreign heads of state visit the capital, and is also used by the monarch to host gatherings of state officials and as a working office when their presence is required near the Assembly Halls. The Royal Family will also spend summer months here, though due to the proximity of the Palace to residential areas, this does not happen regularly. With 512 rooms, the Royal Mews, and a weather station in the rotunda, the Palace is the second largest royal property currently open to the public in some capacity, behind the Naranza Palace.
