LAA Air Andorinhões was established in 1959 as the national carrier. In 1971, following the proclamation of the [[Socialist Republic of the Martlets Islands]], the airline became a public (state-owned) company.
 
In 2007, the AndorinhenseAndorinhean government signed an agreement with the [[CAA Airlines Corporation of the Andorinhões]]. The new administration discontinued the hub at [[São João das Ilhas International Airport]] and moved the arline's hub to [[Ernesto Coelho International Airport]]. In 2009, CAA officially acquired a majority of shares, becoming the majority owner of the company.
