==The Near-Genocide of the Baykalians==
Before the Civil War, the Baykalians were the dominant group that had governmental positions, which gave the ethnicity a bad reputation, as the system itself was seen as thoroughly corrupted to the core. The Civil War broke out primarily because of the domination ofgrip the BaykaliansBaykalian in the Kostuv Government, as is discussed in the Culture Clashes section on the [[Kostuvastan]] wiki. Even during the war, the Baykalianspolity had a superior warfare strategy, and were close to winningover the CivilSalovian WarGovernment. However, both the Kostrom and Tuvalt Forces had learned about the entire warfare strategies of the Baykalians. Using this information, both the Kostroms and the Tuvalts managed to kill approximately 95% of the Baykalian ethnicity by the year 2000. The remaining 280,000 or so were completely cut off from the rest of the world, due to Tuvalt and Kostrom forces threatening to fight anyone who attempted to help the Baykalians. As a last-ditch effort, the remaining 5% sent their children off to the Veridian Union, the only nation willing to take in any of the Baykalian population, but under one condition: Keep producing children.

==The Anthrax Outbreak of 1987==

It is believed that either Kostroms or Tuvalts secretly devised a scheme to kill off the Baykalians. The plan was to create a multitude of letters with traces of anthrax on them, and send all the letters to key locations in Baykalia. This plan backfired, as the disease managed to travel through Kostromastan and Tuvaltastan, and from the plan's execution on Feb. 17th to the last anthrax death on Dec. 9th, 15 million people died of anthrax, 52% of which were Kostromi, and 38% were Tuvalt.

==Famines==

The war effort in all three soon-to-be countries was so extensive, there was barely enough food for anyone outside the war. The lack of food reached a point that entire regions were forced to farm in secret, as the war effort would have otherwise taken it and given it to the soldiers on the battlefield. Other regions, which did not have the resources to farm, suffered decade-long famines, the longest one being the Great Kostro Famine, which lasted from 1989 to 2008, three years after the war had ended. Another deadly famine that occured was in the northern Tuvalt province of Rentorov, the cause of which is further discussed in the Bombing Campaigns section.

==Major Battles==
Line 73 ⟶ 75:

===Second Battle of Astrakhan===

The Second Battle of Astrakhan took place from 1993 to the end of the civil war (2005). The battle began when Tuvalt forces began their campaign to attempt to conquer the city of Astrakhan. The Kostromastan's forces, in response to this, retaliated against the onslaught. It was the bloodiest and longest battle of the war that killed approximately 3 million people by the end of the battle. The battle itself was not solely between two parties, with the participants changing over time. One moment, Tuvalt and Baykal forces are fighting, the next moment, Kostrom and Tuvalt forces are fighting. This rotation was continuous, and one point during the battle, all three participants of the war were all fighting each other, with even some smaller, less powerful militias fighting as well, such as the Novgora Front, the Sakha Liberation Force, and many others.

===Battle for Novosibirsk===

The battle for Novosibirsk spanned the years 1989-1994, and was a tug-of-war for control of Novosibirsk. Initially held by Tuvalt forces, the city switched between Kostrom and Tuvalt forces multiple times throughout this battle. The battle ended after a small squadron of elite soldiers led by Petrie Torotova entered and recaptured the city from Kostrom forces, killing the head of the occupation effort, essentially ending the battle.

==Cease-Fires and Peace Treaties==
Line 89 ⟶ 91:
* The Nal'Chik Ceasefire of 2004, unlike its 1998 predecessor, was significantly more effective, and ended the fighting between Kostrom and Tuvalt forces in the majority of the battlegrounds.

* After a number small conflicts throughout Tuvalt and Kostrom territory occurred, the Tuvalts and Kostroms both signed The Treaty of Astrakhan on September 12th, 2005, which officially ended the Kostuvastan Civil War, with three new nations of Baykalia, Kostromastan, and Tuvaltastan replacing KostuvastanSalovia.

==Aftermath==

The KostuvastanSalovian Civil War resulted in mass emigrations from each nation, moving to the neighboring nations of Caltharus, Xiopothos, and Ethalria, with a total of approximately three million refugees. The bloodshed resulted in one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent memory, and soon after each nations' founding, joined the Auroran Continental Assembly so as to better revamp the economies of former KostuvastanSalovia, and to rebuild the cities that were all but destroyed. Today, a vengeful resentment lingers towards the opposing parties in the minds of many civilians who remember the civil war, with border skirmishes occurring as recently as October of 2016. The governments of former KostuvastanSalovia have attempted to prevent these skirmishes by establishing a military presence on the borders.
