It is Tretrid's financial center. It is the chief city of the Sigested metropolitan area, which encompasses Blawport and Anham.
Sigested is located at the mouth of the Swanflood as it flows into the Nearbyht, a bay in eastern Crenland that forms part of the wider Atlantian Sea. The city boundaries encompass the coast of the Nearbyht up to the city limits of Anham and Blawport, as well as the last 65 kilometers of the Swanflood.
Sigested is traditionally stated to have been founded by Cenhelm I among other settlements in the region after his victory over vikings from the east, a feat commemorated in the epic poem ''[[Cenhelm]]''. His descendants, the [[House of Cenhelm|Cenhelmingas]] would unite Easþrena, but would be dispossessed of the city after Ælfric I's conquest of the city during the unification of Tretrid. Under Easþrena and under Tretrid, Sigested would grow into a prosperous port city that was able to capitalize on its natural harbor and location in the Atlantian Sea to become a center of trade.
