The election of the Conservatives seemed to dampen hopes for negotiations over Yeralik, and the appointment of Charles Marlberg as Prime Minister effectively killed the plan. Marlberg had previously led the Hallström Center, a fiercely nationalistic wing of the Conservative Party. Marlberg himself had close ties to the Cryrian security establishment, which itself had been opposed to ceding additional ground on the Northern Waters Dispute.
