National weapon
A national weapon is the title given to a type of device or implement, with the capacity to cause physical injury, with cultural or historical significance to a specific country. They differ from ceremonial weapons in their status as a practical symbol rather than one used for decoration or as a religious relic.
The tradition of national weapons began arguably in Yasteria with the Suvan fire lance, an ancestor to firearms and symbol for the region dating back to the 12th century. This status is highly debated, however, with the concept of national or group identity and its association with weapons difficult to classify in absolute terms.
Despite its debated origin, the tradition became more so associated with the continent of Borea following its adoption by a number of Borean states where the military is a notable source of patriotism, such as Rohyca. The custom of having a national weapon has since spread worldwide, in both establishment by law and more de facto cultural phenomena.
