In 1981 Meremaa it gained full independence after Norgsveldet's loss in the Tieresh Independence War, which made it near impossible for Norgsveldet to keep Meremaa as a colony. In 1990 Meremaa was dealing with a brutal civil war after Grand Duke Telvi II brutaly put down a labour strike with the army in the city of Morzk.
