Lord Azriel Makemutu was a statesman and politician who served as the Head of the Royal Household of the Oan royal family from 1895 to 1907 and as the Prime Minister of the Oan Isles from 1907 to 1926. He served under Rangitake the Great and Mikaere III and was highly favoured and trusted by both men. He was instrumental in the democratic reforms of the Oan Isles. He was a member of the Oan aristocracy and his noble title was High Chief of Ikanunui.
