The Littoral Combat Frigate design was created in the late 1990's, in response to the need of a fast response naval vessel capable of shore and sea response. The ship only has a draft of about 10 feet, which makes it capable of going within hundreds of yards to shore, making it a perfect shore support and anti-air platform.
