Other important institutions include the [[Volkskammer|People's Chamber]], whose sessions are chaired by a [[#Heads of parliament|President of the People's Chamber]], and, since 1975, the [[National Defense Council of East Cerdani|National Defense Council]], which holds supreme command of the DDR's [[National People's Army|armed forces]] and has authority over the State in time of war. The Council was composed exclusively of members of the SRD's [[Socialist Revolutionary Party of Cerdani#Central Committee|Central Committee]] and [[Socialist Revolutionary Party of Cerdani#Political Bureau of the Central Committee|Politburo]], with the party leader serving as [[#Heads of the military|Chairman of the National Defense Council]].
