Kovalenko tallied 295 goals and 682 assists, for 977 points, in 1,009 VHL games, ranking him as the Falcons' all-time leading points scorer.

Following his retirement from hockey, Kovalenko was elected mayor of Kovdor in 2012, a position he held until 2020.
