João Paulo Rodrigues OA (born 28 July 1972) is an Andorinhean politician and economist serving as the 7th and current President of the Andorinhões, since 20 November 2017. He is the first President affiliated with the Nós Andorinhianos political party.

Early life

Rodrigues was born in 1972 in Porto Alegre on Santa Island, Rodrigues attended the College of Porto Alegre, graduated from the University of Colheitas in 1992 with a Bachelor of Economics in applied economics, then in 1996 acquired a Master of Public Administration from Maurício de Corvos University.

Economist career

After graduating he started is career in the banking sector. He worked as an asset manager for the private Bank of São João. He was appointed Administrative Director of the Bank of the Andorinhões from 2007 to 2013. After resigning from his position in the Bank of the Andorinhões he was invited to taught at the State University of the Andorinhões.

Political career

At the start of the 2017 Andorinhean legislative election, many considered Rodrigues to be a front runner to be nominated as a Presidential choice. After having talks with many political parties, it was announced on 21 August that he would be the choice of the Nós Andorinhianos party.

President of the Andorinhões

After the victory of the Nós Andorinhianos party, Rodrigues was officially appointed as President on 15 September 2017.

As President, Rodrigues decided to have a more hands-on approach on the legislative agenda, distancing from an exclusive administrative role for the presidency. He has invited many Deputies to assist to meetings of the Council of Ministers in an effort to gain support for the bills presented by the Government.

Personal life

In 1998, Rodrigues married Clara-Maria Padron, a municipal councillor. The couple has no children.
