}}'''Rißtten''', formally known as the '''Duchy of Rißtten''', is a constituent state within [[Arkalarius]] ruled by the von Reitz family. The coastal territory is known for its rich soil and the spectacular rivers that flow down from the Arkian mountains. Though home to diverse technology and industrial sectors, the Duchy's economy is best known for the city of Rißtten and its important shipbuilding industry. The region is populated by the descendants of 16th-century Cryrian missionaries and settlers, and retains its strong Ademarist roots despite centuries of Ethalrian and Arkian roots.

== History ==
Northern Arkalarius was subjected to infrequent contacts by Asendavian and Cryrian vessels for much of its early history. These visits intensified with the Cryrian migration to Novaris. Seafaring Ademarist missionaries began to frequent the area with the purpose of converting the region, and the presence of navigable rivers and good soil made it attractive for settlers, especially as the Cryrian Isles themselves began to offer little more in the way of claimable land for would-be aristocrats. For a time, portions of the Arkian coast was home to a distant and largely disconnected Cryrian outpost, though it would receive a sizable boost after the Sorrows, when the victors of the Cryrian civil war exiled many former rebels across the sea.

=== Ethalrian Rule ===
As the Arkian peninsula came under the influence of new foreign powers, many of the Ademarist outposts were swept away. Rißtten itself would be violently incorporated into Ethalrian rule. The resentful and repressed population would be among the first territories to rebel against Ethalrian rule when the time came. With the support of the Cryrian Church, Ademarist Rißtten saw success in its part of the Arkian independence war. Cognizant of Leidenstad's previous indifference and inability to provide protection, the Duchy would integrate into the new Confederation.

=== Modern Rißtten ===
In the subsequent centuries, Rißtten retained strong cultural connections across the sea. It is home to one of the few branches of the Cryrian Church outside of the Isles. The institution is remains celebrated for its role in Rißtten's uprising and continues to be an important presence in Rißttenner identity. Similarly, the ruling nobility continues to have family ties to the Cryrian aristocracy and the House of Leidensen, and Cryrian has been preserved as a secondary language. Though the ethnically Cryrian population has been historically insular towards the rest of the confederation, it has grown increasingly Arkianized over time, particularly with the development of industry along its rivers and coasts. This has given rise to a unique mixture of Arkian and Cryrian culture which has at times been compared to similar confluences in the Cryrian city of Valngi.
