The region that would become Astela were once located at the heart of the Celanoran Empire. It was positioned close to the imperial capital at Celano and lay upon valuable trade routes, making it a particularly wealth and prestigious province. Even after the Empire lost much of its power, Astela remained an important part of the Imperial Federation of Celanor and saw a revival as an economic hub during the industrial revolution, as the many rivers which flowed down from the mountains to the north made it an ideal site for industrialization. Astela, formally known as the Republic of Astela, is a country in southern Novaris. Its capital and largest city is Altarme. It is bordered by Seccera to the north and Celanora to the east, with a coastline on the Sherman Channel.
