The province sued Volkia Union Bank for deceptive lending practices and false advertising. The lawsuit grew to include four other provinces and sparked a federal investigation, leading to federal charges against several individuals within the bank's management and investors, including COO Matvei Khigir. Volkia Union Bank issued a statement apologizing for the wrongdoing and settled the lawsuit for Ӄ1 billion (roughly $700 million).
