Wed Shams is a sovereign state in central [[Arcturia]], located alongside the [[river Shams]]' bank and delta. The country is ruled by the monarchs of the two ethnic groups in power: Bardians, inhabiting mainly the delta and coastal areas, and Qaridians, from the inner territory. The current Bardian queen is [[Yedder IX]], in power since 1896, while [[Mutamid IV]] holds the Qaridian throne since 2010. The diarchs are elected for a lifetime reign by the Royal Council, made from the most distinguished members of both ethnicities. The country identifies as "Elvish", since [[Species#Elves|elves]] of the Banto-Shamsian group form around 90% of the native population.
