The Grand Prix of Music has often been used as a method for choosing the Phoenixian entry for the [[Urthvision Songfestival|Urthvision Song Festival]]. It has launched the careers of some of Phoenixia's most successful musical acts, including [[Love and Peace]], [[Jeremy Scott Kate]], [[Daniel Nefion Berg]], [[Chaos Blade]] and [[Robert Tens Nevermind]].▼
Organized by the [[Phoenixian Public broadcaster (PPB)]], the festival serves as a platform for talented musicians and artists to showcase their musical abilities and compete for recognition and awards.
The contest is open to songs sung in both Phoexian and Staynish and attracts a wide range of talented artists and bands from all over the country. The most voted song is awarded the Premio Mela, while special awards such as the Critics' Award are also presented.

In addition to the main contest, the Grand Prix of Music also features the Matango Trials, a new section where young artists and bands have the opportunity to make their debut. This section is sponsored by the music magazine and record agency [[Matango]].
From 1990 to 2020, the food multinational [[Caroma]] was the official sponsor of the Grand Prix of Music. However, after its withdrawal in 2021, Matango stepped in to become the new official sponsor.
