The National Police's official functions are to protect the Esteiran nation, enforce the law, and to ensure peaceful cohabitation among the population.

==History==
Following the assassination of [[President of Esteira|president]] First Last, lawmakers determined that a breakdown in communication between the country's two police services resulted in a missed opportunity to ultimately prevent Last Name's assassination. In an effort to improve communication and improve policing overall in Esteira, Law 1967-005 was passed by the [[People's National Assembly of Esteira|People's National Assembly]] and signed into law by president First Last. This law unified the Civil Guard and Investigative Police, and created a unified police service responsible for general policing and investigations.

The new police force was given a wide range of responsibilities, which led to the creation of specialized divisions and bureaus dedicated to specific roles.
